A shout out to everyone who survived or went through Hurricane Katrina

I know this isn’t the actual day of the storm but I always remember it as it is my sons birthday and hurricane issues killed his birthday party 3 years in a row with this being the last one. This is also the day I realized my life was going to be completely different forever. That fricking smell, that sweet rotten pungent odor is something that I will never ever forget.

I will always remember this video from St Bernard as they stayed home and rode out the storm and water made it up to their roof. I would have shite my pants.

Man, that was one of a few monumental events in our lifetime. Tough to underdtand the enormity of a situation like that.

It was a wild time, but I do not think there has ever been a better time to live in New Orleans than between October of 2005 and 2011. The culture of hope, gratitude, civic pride, and joy were unmatched. It was a true renaissance. But the stories from the storm and shortly after I do not dwell on or share, for that was a tragic time.

What confused me was that none of the refugees had jobs, so why were they on Florida Blvd causing my 15 minute commute to/from work to take 45m during rush hour?
