awesome place if you're into the outdoors, doesn't look like it's a good place for a young single guy, though you never know, I was visiting my nephew up there, he's flying Orions, tried to give him my best sales pitch to join the jet community

Just got back from running errands to catch up on this thread. I was hoping 777 would make an appearance.
I of course know that what I witness in the movie may not in any way resemble actual air combat tactics. It was more of a hypothetical situation. Gonna check out some of the books listed. This stuff is more of a hobby interest.
And the comedy has been great.
Iceman, the later years

My BIL's call sign was Mad Dog, because that was the exact opposite of his personality.

I had a buddy whose call sign was Slant. I thought that was cool as shite. Then he told me it stood for slow antelope. Whatever the hell that means.

A Question About Dogfighting

Come off high to the outside of Jester's turn and cover Hollywood's 6 while keeping an eye on Viper. When he tries to leave the fight to set up the sneak attack, pop him with an AIM-9, or AIM-7 if he's too far away, then shoot Jester in the face as he comes back nose on. OK-3 wire, paint a couple of stars on the jet, down a Barney Clark and watch Animal House in the Ready Room for the 137th time.
ETA: And oh, "Spurt" Seamon, former Blue Angel. Couldn't get away with that one now!

Great, laid back place. you're only an hour from Seattle and a couple hours from Vancouver.

To hell with an AIM-7. You gotta hold the radar lock too long. Those little F5s would break lock as soon as their RWR gear picked it up. No chance in hell of getting a Sparrow in there. AMRAAM....'Cats weren't meant for that kind of close in stuff...yeah they got a gun..but they got a Phoenix too...100 km missile. Dance with what brought you. He'd have better luck with a all aspect Sidewinder.

dad owned an air service company in Houma
They had some photos of the FBO planes in formation with the Tomcat. The 182 was probably at max airspeed. The FBO folks also owned the little jet used in the James Bond movie intro that flew through the hanger. And as far as the flat spin in Top gun, RIP Art Scholl. Spun in a Pitts filming it.

I always thought they were T-38s.

more than likely they were T-38's, as mentioned, the F-5 is derivative of the T-38
