I'm somehow facebook friends with a lady from Portland and she is so 'woke'. I was going to delete her but its actually pretty entertaining when she goes on a rant.

A) it’s funny to see people get a stick up their arse about stuff. This board didn’t side with permit Patty a year back.
B) the board is a bit less racist than most people assume.
C) the board is also pretty libertarian. Let the man do what wants.
But a lot of this board loves HOAs and their home values, that is why I thought there'd be opposition to this from posters.

That's heart-warming and all but...
1. Shame on their family members for not taking them in. In the preceding story their families aren't aware they are homeless because they all live out of state. But... how do you not know your parent is homeless???
2. I hope he gives them a job as well. It's one thing to give someone a place to live but after a while they will get restless for a purpose other than just existing. It doesn't have to be much, cut the grass, wash the windows, etc. This would also give them a little extra income for food/clothing/self-esteem.

What are these people doing that would violate HOA regulations?

The next time you'll hear about this guy is when he's been murdered and a flock of homeless people are living in his home.

If I were President I would order the appropriate agencies to immediately buy up any property for sale in the countriy's various wealthy, ultra-Liberal enclaves....
I would then proceed to stuff them full of immigrants and the homeless.....
I would then order the largest bag of popcorn that ever existed and kick back....

Yes IMO. If he wants to be “nice”, he should go be nice at a shelter. Or he can sell his home and donate the proceeds to an advocacy group. His lack of regard for his neighbors is disgusting. He’s an attention whore or he’s pissed at his neighbors and is doing this just to spite them.
And everyone lauding him for it or “loling at his neighbors predictable response” are PsOS too. Why are you LOLing? Because affluent people in a nice hood are aghast that this guy is single handedly trying to cause them grief? WTF?
It’s not funny. The guy is a dick. His neighbors have every right to be pissed. Where is the humor in it?
Why do you assume this guy and lady are no good, or that they will cause the neigbors "grief"? Bad things sometimes happen to good people.
edit to say that some of you haven't read the entire article. As noted....
"Yes, there are homeless people with significant problems, but not all are addicted to drugs, stealing everything in sight to sustain a crippling habit. Not all homeless people suffer from mental illness, screaming incoherently at cars and people. Not all homeless people are beggars.
Some homeless people I’ve met — the people you don’t see and hear — have just gotten lost. Some have college degrees and multiple jobs. Some are veterans. Some have families. They’re struggling to survive in an area they can’t afford to live in. And they don’t have money to move anywhere else."
And as for the homeowner doing this...
"McGrath, 60, was raised in St. Helena in Napa County. He was one of nine children, and he told me his family was poor and on welfare for significant periods of time.
Today, McGrath is a real estate developer and investor. The UC Berkeley graduate is the founder of McGrath Properties, which focuses on the acquisition and development of properties in the East Bay. The company renovated a nine-story building on Clay Street in downtown Oakland that was the former headquarters of PG&E. And it’s one of the developers of the 24-story, 402-unit high-rise apartment building going up feet from MacArthur BART Station.
I asked McGrath why he’d let people off the street live with him.
“It’s helped bring me back to my roots as a young kid,” he said. “I cannot avoid the responsibility I have to life around me. I have a personal obligation to take responsibility when I see injustices. And to me, this is a clear injustice.”

News Flash - Rich, white limousine liberals who love to tell everyone else in America how to live are raging hypocrites.

I believe everyone is laughing at the irony of champagne socialist having to directly deal with the ideals they force upon others and having a negative reaction to it.

Don't get me started. Have had that annoying conversation more than once. I just end it with....wtf do you know about black people? That usually ends it.
I don't even try anymore, they're clueless. They're the worst kind of know it all.

This. I love to watch progressive coastal liberals get their face rubbed in their own smug.

Well, our President could do this with his own bank account on a small scale.
He definitely should.
Buy 4 or 5 mansions in super fancy gated communities in sanctuary cities and fill them with the homeless and undocumented immigrants.

My sister lives in Portland and we were raised in Baton Rouge.
She gets on her ultra-liberal high horse about race and poverty until she's back home for a few days for the holidays and her tone starts changing back.
Its hilarious.

What a knowledgeable hypocrite.
At least she knows. The other idiots don't, yet talk like they do.

Thing is, my sister is very intelligent and very reasonable.
I think that place just brainwashes people.

Yeah, I am also surprised. I thought for sure people on this board would be siding with the neighbors who are complaining about this guy turning his home into a homeless shelter.
You do realize the world is quite different compared to the Poli Board echo chamber, right?

Think it's more about peer pressure and fitting in especially being from BR. Don't know.
She has to be careful that's for sure. My experiences mean dick to them and their opinions so it's mostly a waste of time even talking about it.

Racist rich people in the richest and most liberal city on earth. If I didn’t already know better, I’d be surprised. They’re all for minorities and immigrants until they have to see them every day.
Nailed it. They live behind gated walls with armed security and have the balls to lecture us on open borders and gun control. frick those liberal hypocrites.

Surprised by the responses in this thread. I’d be pissed if my neighbors moved in a couple of homeless people next door. And I don’t live in a million plus neighborhood (OT poor).
You're failing to notice that posters are identifying with the irony of the situation, not the reality of the situation itself. The homeowners living in this particular area are likely the same people who pay lipservice to the activities conducted by the subject of the article.

Nothing like a hard slap in the face from reality to get the hypocrisy juices flowing.......
