Three seemingly healthy families were struck by COVID-19 in January after dining at neighboring tables in a windowless restaurant in Guangzhou, China.

Researchers studying the case think that the restaurant's air-conditioner blew the viral droplets of one person who was asymptomatic farther than they might have normally gone.

Nine other people across the three families later got sick. The researchers described their findings in an early-release research letter published in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases earlier this month.

It's a frightening prospect for people trying to keep a healthy distance from others.

But in a potentially hopeful finding for the locked-down restaurant industry, none of the 73 other diners and eight employees in the restaurant at the time got sick, the researchers added. "To prevent the spread of the virus in restaurants, we recommend increasing the distance between tables and improving ventilation," they wrote.

So that one person definitely sneezed or coughed without covering it up so it went all up in the air and circulated.

I mean if the cruise ship wasn't proof enough of this initially then i don't see what you're trying to get at that hasn't been already discussed.

Hmm. Somehow seems suspicious.

And, at this point I don’t give a single frick. Viruses are part of the human condition. My life or your life is not so precious that we all have to hide under our beds for a year. It’s life- you buy a ticket and take your chances. Nobody gets out alive anyway. Herd immunity ahead.

There is no way they’d be able to prove something like this.

I saw this a week ago and it was being used to spread fear. Complete bullshite. Someone would have to sneeze into the air return and then it would have to somehow make it through all the vents and be spread to all the other people in the restaurant. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I wonder if they didn't get it some other way in that restaurant. Maybe touching surfaces that were infected, things like that seem more likely.

Well now we can all go to work but we need to shut off the A/C.

They are going to get it whether they want it or not.

Exactly. At this point are these type of reports advocating for eternal lockdown? I get why Reddit users want permanent quarantine since none of them have jobs to lose....but eventually we have to allow people to do normal things in life without perpetual fear of dying.

Exactly. This is basically a hypothesis. Not sure why we are now publishing hypotheses. I guess because it is China.

China has no fricking clue what they are talking about.

They expect us to believe that they identified patient zero of a disease that has at a minimum 50% asymptomatic rate. Think about that. Not even Nancy fricking Drew is going to retrace those infections when all it takes is one asymptomatic person to break the trail.

Plot twist: Those 9 worked at the Wuhan Lab. Just a coincidence, per Chinese authorities.

This goes against what we know now, supposedly.

Now, had those 9 touched the same table or any other object...
