Dont go with an open face reel, the young ones struggle not to backlash them. A Zebco 33 on a six foot rod should do for now

A gift card (WM, Target, etc) for all of the stuff they didn't realize they would need until after the baby was born. And with each kid it is different. babies have their preferences too. At the very least they can use it for diapers.

If you don't like the GC idea, then baby pjs/tshirts/onesies but for older than newborn age like 6-9 mos. People tend to give a ton of newborn clothes that they grow out of quickly but none for the next stages.

No one needs another stuffed animal or blanket. Someone suggested medicines but that is too personal. Every parent has their own ideas about that.

Depends what your trying to do.

Money wise and long term wise a 529 is great

Present wise for being used is an a cheap violent rocking machine/swing life saver for me… and lots of healthy mom snacks for breast feeding, and endless supply of baby’s wipes or diapers that the mom has decided are the best and cause least reaction for the baby(saying this bc don’t buy a bunch of wipes or diapers u til the mom has decided what works best/least allergic reactions) for me the best was Millie moon(high waist), and Costco Kirkland brand baby wipes.

My brother gave my son a .22 Rascal rifle when he was born. Now that he’s 12, it’s still one of his favorite gifts and he loves shooting it.

Savings bond.

Or I knew someone that gifted his buddy an expensive bottle to bourbon, built a small wood box to put it in, with the intention of opening on his 21st birthday. He and his buddy are life long friends.

If they are leftists, wait until the child is old enough to choose it's gender. If they are not leftists a US savings bond.

Diapers are the correct answer for the short term. 100 dollars in a growth etf is the answer for the long term

Diapers that are a few sizes too big for them now. They will have plenty of newborns, ones, and twos. They will appreciate it when the child gets to be that size.

Amazon gift card... when our son was born we appreciated that way more than something they though would be cute that we didn't need and it took up space, or we already had 4 of.
