pit bulls is that pit bulls are by nature very large and muscular dogs

Labs are bigger than pitbulls. so are Dobermans, rots, GSPs, etc.

frick. That. You don't know what was done to that dog before he ended up at the shelter. I would own a pit if I had it from a puppy but there is no way in hell I would adopt a pit that had a bad upbringing.

personally I've only bought pure bred dogs, so I know exactly what they were meant for and what their personality traits will be. you get what you pay for too, even with animals.

We have a couple of them. They are just dogs, not really any different than any other dog of similar size. I don't understand what the big deal is but then again I am not afraid of the boogie man like the OT.

But it's the fact that the dog is aggressive that attracts trash to it.

Exactly. It's funny that you don't hear stories of pit bull attacks in Beverly Hills, it's always in trailer parks and slums.

This.

I know many college educated people with good lives that have dogs that have at least some pit bull in them that are just fine.

All pit bulls are fine.... right up until the moment they're not.

Yeah but none of them (except maybe rotts, but they have the same reputation) are as strong as pits and as capable of delivering lethal damage.

Not always....

quote:

The 40-year-old resident was attacked inside the home on Silverado Drive, in the Pinole Valley area shortly before 10 a.m. and bitten on her legs, arms and face. Pinole police were able to secure the animal in the back yard before Pinole Fire Department paramedics administered “advanced life support” treatment.

The woman’s wounds were so severe that she had to be flown by helicopter to the trauma center at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, said Steve Akre, the Pinole Fire battalion chief. He said there was a male resident inside the home at the time of the attack, but he was not injured.

Pet pit bull attacks, mauls Pinole woman

Here's a Google Street view of Silverado Drive...

no, they are all stronger than pits. a pit will get like 50 pounds, maybe bigger if some idiot breeds them with another bully.
my father in laws shepherds and Dobermans drag me around and can pull anything out my hands when I play with them, the pitmut not so much.

This is truly a sad story, but you are right. My in-laws have 5 dogs. 2 choc labs, 2 toy dogs and a Great Pyrenees. One of the choc labs is a female and she is so damn protective of our 1 year old daughter. She won't let the other lab or the GP get anywhere near her. Its funny to watch

By bigger, do you mean taller and less likely to kill you or chew your face off?

How much do you want to bet that the dogs weren't fixed and were used for backyard breeding?

More like backyard fighting. I have seen some great Pits that were owned by responsible non-trashy people.

Are you scared of dogs? If so, I heard BRPD is hiring.

Can we at least be honest about where we are getting our information on the breed? I don't understand how can you trust the media to be able to identify these animals. I'm surprised the headline doesn't read "9-year old boy dies after being attacked by 3 AK47's."

Scared of dogs? No. Weary of pits and pit mixes. Sure. There's enough history of them snapping to warrant being weary of an animal bred to kill.

Labs aren't prone to kill or chew one's face off.

Don't try to bring logic and facts to the OT, I got downvoted for pointing out that there are plenty of other dogs who are bigger and stronger than a pit

I don't think they're as strong though. Riddle me this: if you had to bet your life savings, what would you bet on in a dog fight: an average-sized pit or an average-sized lab?

having both, I can say my black lab would maul my pit. but then my wifes yorkie handles my pit pretty well... but as for average, I've never met a trailer park or inner city pit

One of my brothers had an indoor pit bull purchased as a puppy. Scary looking bitch but never an incident and died of old age. Current neighbors here in a nice subdivision have two young ones that escape their yard on occasion. They killed another neighbor's Basset Hound and a cat. They will charge a person but stop short of attacking and just bark. They are skittish when solo but real aggressive if together. If the owner is with them outside of their fenced area, they come up gently and want me to pet them and they seem fine. Outside of that one scenario, they are aggressive. I'm afraid he beats them to submission though, no proof on that except hearsay from others. I will probably HAVE to kill them one day though, just feel it.
