82 year sets record for oldest Appalachian Trail thru hiker

“I feel numb right now. It’s really a euphoric experience,” Sanders says. “I’m just so thankful to the people who have helped me. I literally would not be here if it weren’t for all the people who encouraged me along the way.”

You meet all types on the trail. We met a widower who was on his 7th trek, young married couple, lots of combat vets, people trying to lose weight, get sober etc.

Yikes.
That explains his gut a little better, dude looks a little fat for that hike. Most people that finish come out super thin. Could just be the old man body though, who knows.
Good for him, I hope I can do that at that age.

If Lee Barry is still alive I bet he's quietly pissed off about this. I'm sure he thought he had that record wrapped up for the rest of his life.
