My uncle was in the 101st and jumped on D-Day and was at the Bulge.
I asked him once why he decided to join the airborne and his answer was "hell son, it paid $50 a month more".
Was a raging alcoholic for several years after the war and was finally able to stop drinking in the 70s. I have a couple really cool pictures of him and three more guys that did a "bond drive tour" in the US after they came "home".

Greatest intelligence failure in US military history
True. Why didn't our spy satellites pick up the German infantry and tanks massing together for an attack?

Can’t believe Eisenhower didn’t even think about the Ardennes.

Ike was a politician not a battle general. Patton knew history and knew what was up and that’s why he got his arse up there so fast and to bring an end to the bullshite.

Go watch the Band of Brothers mini series.

The best part of that is the men of Easy Company swearing that they were fine and didnt need Patton to rescue them.

The lead elements of the German buildup were within eyesight of American lines. The buildup happened right under our nose. The narrative that some super secret mobilization happened with hundreds of thousands of men and thousands of vehicles is not correct.

You say that like it’s any bit better lol

God won us that victory after General Patton did the weather prayer. The chaplain that wrote it got a Silver Star for it.

DON'T watch that movie. It's terrible and it's historically inaccurate.

My kid’s friend’s grandfather was a paratrooper in the Battle of the Bulge, along with Operation Market Garden and Operation Shingle. He is the most decorated officer in the history of the 82nd Airborne. Still kicking at 101 yrs. old. He narrated some stuff at the WWII museum and also wrote a book about his WWII experiences. The dude is a true American hero. He has such a commanding presence when he speaks, even at his current age. You just have a feeling of awe any time you’re in his presence.

I fought my own battle of the bulge in church today. Thankfully I won before I had to stand up for communion.
