NEW YORK — Some encouraging news and some sobering news about a COVID-19 vaccine, when might one be available – and will people actually take it?

With the first volunteer receiving a shot, Moderna officially began the phase three safety and efficacy trial of its novel RNA-based vaccine. The plan is to enroll 30,000 such volunteers, half of which will get a placebo and complete the trial in just a few months, rather than the several years such trials normally require.

But even if a safe and effective vaccine is available by year end and it was free, a new CBS News poll suggests there may not be takers, at least at first. The poll found that more than two third of Americans, 70%, would either wait to see what happens when other got the shot or would never get one. Fewer than one in three would get the vaccine right away.

Well ya. Why in the hell would you get in line for a rushed vaccine that hasn't been tested for long for a virus that doesn't affect 99% of the population?

Likely the same people who have been in no hurry to go back to work and lose their $600/week too.

It’s a risk reward scenario. This vaccine was developed in under a year. Regardless of your opinions on vaccines and the rigors this one went through in testing, this is extremely fast. (Risk)

All for a disease that has a less than 0.5% of known cases (reward)

I’m not in the vulnerable population so yes I’d wait

I'm a flu shot getter, but I will admit I am hesitant about an unproven Covid vaccine.

Or my kids' pediatrician and lots of other healthcare professionals.

But the attempted education-shaming for anyone that isn't terrified of this disease never gets old.

As you should be. You and everyone else should not be obligated to take a shot that doesn't have proof of working.

That 1 person out of the 3 must not understand what goes in to finding a vaccine and replicating the result in a predictable way.

Ain’t no way in hell they’ll have enough time to study the efficiency and side effects of a vaccine that took them less than 6 months to create and distribute.

I'm in the wait camp.

Rushed vaccine just isn't worth it.

I wonder how getting the vaccine will turn political.
Most uneducated Democrats are typically against vaccines, but getting a vaccine should be considered alongside mask wearing, correct?

I'm probably not getting it at all. Hell, I've only gotten the flu shot twice in my life.

Give it to those who have the health conditions that put them in a higher risk of death.

People can do whatever they want. I'll be lining up as soon as it's available. I suspect about February when this shite tearing through the country at full throttle again, people will be crying for it and it'll be too late for a lot of them.

Never gotten a flu shot before. Why would I get a shot for this year’s flu?
