Wait—you think an income tax would replace or reduce existing property taxes?

Yep. Rains every day of the year and if you're not tripping over a suicide body you're stubbing your toe on a dirty syringe. Not recommended.

It's probably worth noting that the population of people making more than $120k/yr is still growing in California. California is basically seeding the rest of the country with lower and mid-tier tech jobs.

Buddy of mine lives in Boise and he said that 1/3rd of everyone he interacts with there is from California. Home prices have gone up a lot but as everyone here alludes to, the politics does change.

Not all of them are Dems. My daughter has several college friends from California that are staying in Texas and actual hate what the Libs in California have done to the state.

It will flip Arizona way before Texas. Only hope is at least half are Cali conservatives fleeing the state. Seeing the red areas of Cali slowly turn blue tells me this is the case

The ONLY advantage income tax has over property taxes is income can be a little easier to hide. However, if you pay attention to where you live and avoid double MUD districts your property taxes can be pretty manageable.

If we had the median in the nation state income tax and median property taxes my total state tax bill would be about 18% higher.

When I lived down in Houston my property taxes on a ~$400K home were higher than a buddy of mines when he lived in a ~$1MM home about 15 minutes away. How? I was paying two MUD districts he wasn't paying any.

Beto only lost by two percent. Texas (therefore the country) is most certainly fricked.

I think people underestimate how much of that was fueled by anti-Cruz hate than it was pro-Beto. See presidential race.

Also see the TX governor race held at the same time...a landslide.
