So, a 6 year old kicks another kid in class and melts down (as 6 year olds can do, sometimes).
Obviously this needs to be dealt with. But arresting and fingerprinting a 6 year old? Putting cuffs on her? WTF??
OK, sleep apnea doesn't cause kids to kick other kids.
In what universe is it ok to ARREST a 6 year old and process them at juvie for kicking another kid in class?
This is what happens when we allow the police state to run amok, and when we don't have adults in school leadership and police leadership positions, who are strong enough to stand up for what is right.
Even if the school resource officer thought arresting the kid was a good idea... why TF didn't any other adult in that building stop him? Why didn't any another adult at the police station say, hey, wait a second, let's think about this.
And shut up, Grandma. The kid needs help, and maybe some form of school discipline, and to apologize to the kid she kicked. Blaming this on sleep apnea? Come on.
quote:
Meralyn Kirkland got a call from a school resource officer saying Kaia was arrested. “What do you mean she was arrested,” Kirkland remembered asking the officer. “He said, ‘There was an incident and she kicked somebody and she is being charged and she is on her way.’” Kirkland said her granddaughter’s journey to the juvenile detention center by Orlando police officers began at Lucious and Emma Dixon Elementary Charter School. "She is arrested and she has a charge,” Kirkland explained. “She is charged with battery."

“She has a medical condition that we are working on getting resolved. And he says, ‘What medical condition?’” Kirkland said of her conversation with the officer. “She has a sleep disorder, sleep apnea. And he says, ‘Well, I have sleep apnea and I don’t behave like that.’”

Government works hard at being stupid. Can't wait for the excuse we'll get for this.

disagree. my sister in law (no pics) grew up with a condition that the doctors couldn't diagnose, so she basically went from age 1-4 or 5 being unable to sleep properly at night and apparently she was the worst child imaginable. a doctor finally diagnosed what was wrong, they got it surgically fixed, and she became a new kid almost instantaneously.

Well that would make the story even more insane.

Surely it’s a sign this country is headed on the right direction when we arrest 6 year olds for being 6 year olds.

What was it they fixed?
I have a friend whose child never sleeps, Dr. said she would be grow out of it (she’s 4)

This has already been discussed. The OT thinks the little bitch deserves it.

Don't have a problem with this at all...Heard it on the radio morning talk show yesterday, and a lot of people were the same way.
Teachers can't discipline anymore and parents are too f***ing cucked by social media and the threat of CPS taking away there children if they smack that arse for acting up.
The child wasn't gonna be tried for anything...was the cop a little egregious...maybe. Probably could have just sat her in the car for a little while and drove around the block to scare the shite out of her.
But this is the same BS that's been going around for years now...Parents need to start taking responsibility for their heathen-arse children.
Freaking Sleep Apnea...are you kidding me? This parent is a POS
