Absolutely 100% avoiding. Entirely too many drunks invade that place and turn it into a shitshow.

It’s seems that way, but anywhere. It seems at any state fair, festival, there are always those that aren’t fit for human society that like to ruin it. Admittance costs don’t even keep them out.

I was on the Ferris wheel when an old lady driving by had a heart attack and plowed into the crowd.

Never been back.

That was many years ago and an interesting little tid bit is, the old lady was the police chief's mother.

"Investigation", found no wrongdoing, even though she and her friends were drinking some strawberry wine.

Something like that...

I went to Contraband Days in the 1990s. That's all I got.

Are there actually strawberries at this festival or is it just a bunch of fried shite? My expectations are low.

I think it’s mostly a thick crowd of fat sweaty people standing in line for expensive concession food and standing in line for the port a potty while trying to convince each other they’re having fun

Are we locals? We mount up our golf carts and go entertain ourselves watching the human zoo?

There are always people trying to carry too many flats of strawberries back to their car mini blocks away. Sometimes you can help a sweet young thing get her berries home.

That festival has changed so much for the worse

It has gotten way to big and they allow too many out of town vendors to come into town. When its main purpose is for no profits to earn money to carry them through the year. I go for about a hour or two every year to visit friends but I only live 3 miles outside the city. Other than that its too crowded no fun for locals anymore.

She was the Sheriff at the time, Ed Layrisson's mother ( she had a seizure ) and grandmother of Bre Layrisson the current police chief.

Correct and “had a siezur”, is the official,(and probably accurate), story.

Local talk and rumors abound.

I knew Eddy, casually, and my son is friends with Bre.

Nice fella.

I have a friend that lives nearby and has a crawfish boil that Saturday every year. I enjoy peoplewatching from there but wouldn’t ever walk down the street in that deathmarch of sweaty crowds for terrible rides, overpriced concessions, and junk for sale. I think a real problem is all the rented golf carts, imported 4-wheelers, those low 3 wheelers with stadium speakers, and motorcycles going 40-50 mph down side streets. I haven’t read of any violence this morning and for that I’m happy but there will certainly be some catastrophic event that will doom this fest I’m afraid. GretnaFest is the way to go. Fence it off and charge a minimal entry fee and you’ll cut the crowd by 1/2

Yes sir. Some of the best people around, and they very much appreciate the support.
