Seriously though, the quarter is just a dump. I realize that’s not breaking news on the OT but it’s been a while since I have been down here

Where did you go outside of bourbon

I realize there is a lot of street construction right now. But where else did you find it dumpy

We didn’t actually go on bourbon. I don’t spend time there anymore. Just had to cross the street to get to the Westin where our event was. I’m really just referring to the quarter as a whole not bourbon specifically.

President Biden clarified his position last week. “The idea you need a weapon that can have the ability to fire 20, 30, 40, 50, 120 shots from that weapon — whether it’s a — whether it’s a 9-millimeter pistol or whether it’s a rifle — is ridiculous,”

What fricking guns is he even trying to think of?

Try some spots outside of the Quarter. Uptown, garden district, etc.

Oh, for sure. I just said the Quarter because that’s what most are familiar with around here…

Just read your post again. Oh we are going back but we will be in our hotel by 9pm at the latest because of how dangerous it is.

That freaking sucks. Having to retreat to your hotel room before it gets dark is not vacation to me.

The last time I ever thought that or was told to do that was by the army a few days after Katrina when they let us in the city. And the only reason they let us in was because everyone in the truck was armed to the teeth.

It's sad that this is the mindset of visitors now

I agree. It is a shame. But for her and I, we’ve had our fun in NOLA hundreds of times. Add that to the fact that if we stayed out until 2-3am drinking anymore, it’d take the rest of the stay to recuperate from the hangovers. We did that in Vegas two years ago and wasted a full day in the hotel room.

11-12 works for us….

Get off my lawn.

The first few blocks of Bourbon St is the only dumpy spot in the quarter.

Two blocks away on Royal & it feels like a different world. It’s the best vibe in the whole city

I have family that own a building on Royal and live on Royal. It’s nicer, but the poor element of bourbon has definitely permeated Royal more than the last time I’ve been there.

I’m genuinely asking, are there not homeless people in Boston?

Prior to the pandemic shuttering businesses, my wife and I used to spend a day in the quarter eating, drinking and wandering in to the galleries and shops along Royal about every 3 months.

I’ve always felt that a night in NOLA made for my ideal dream date. If I really like a girl, a night in the Quarter at a restaurant we couldn’t normally afford and maybe then The Columns was on my short list of things I really enjoyed and felt was kind of magical.

I don’t feel like I would take a girl that I loved to do that right now.

Not when it gets dark before you get off of work on a Wednesday.

Cantrell and Avegno seem to ignore the real public health emergency.

Man the regressives in here are doing a fantastic job convincing me it's safe to go to nola.

"Just don't go out after dark, off bourbon is fine, it's just piss and bums c'mon."

Do you hear yourselves and what you are trying to pass off as ok and normal for a major tourist destination?

Have a little higher standard for yourself and the things you feel the need to defend.

Of course there are. Downtown got worse during COVID but it’s getting much better, and the worst area for homelessness is far away from downtown or anywhere a tourist would go. It’s called Meth Mile.

But I never said anything about the homeless issue. I’m more referring to the trash, smell, and violence that permeates the quarter. That isn’t a thing in Boston.

And for the record, I don’t revel in this at all. I want NOLA to improve, and I’ll be the first one to applaud if it ever does.

Well, it’s pretty much always been piss, puke, and bums. Not much has changed. It’s the ghetto rats that don’t know how to behave themselves and want to shoot at everyone that’s ruining it. But thinking Bourbon St deserves “higher standards” is sort of lying to yourself. That place never had standards of we’re being honest.

How many thousands of people go there everyday and are ok??

It’s like saying you don’t want to go to Paris bc of the pickpockets

I guess I misinterpreted when you said poor element.

I’m down there often too. Not much has changed outside of bourbon st being a place where people congregate to avoid Covid restrictions. It will eventually die down, like a popular nightclub, but maybe not until end of the year

Love this logic. It’s so Louisiana. Same thing you hear about any aspect in the rest of the state- it’s always sucked, so you shouldn’t ever expect it to suck less. And if it sucks more, that’s OK cause, you know, it’s always sucked. Classic Louisiana.

And I’m not picking on you. I’m simply illustrating a mindset that permeates this area, keeping it one of the lowest ranked shitholes anywhere.

It’s indicative of the mass shootings that have occurred on Bourbon St in recent years. They don’t give a shite if a family of 4 is gunned down in the process. They don’t fear the Police, jail, or consequences for their actions. It’s a cesspool of an area, where a mass shooting can happen at anytime of the day, where you hope you don’t become a victim while you’re out and about with your family.
