Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Hands down, the Headstones have the best cover of Edmund Fitzgerald. I absolutely love the Gordon Lightfoot original, but this is so damn good I had to put in rotation.

From the visuals being on the frozen lake, to the snare drum and harmonica to the car steering wheel mic stand. Love this shite..

We went to Michigan a few months ago and found ourselves on Whitefish Bay, which is mentioned in the song.

With all the lyric quoting in this thread someone could at least post the best line in the song. (Sung twice)

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down of the big lake they called Gitche Gumee (sic)

The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay if they'd put 15 more miles behind her.

The lead singer looked familiar to me. Looked him up and sure enough he’s the sheriff from Yellowstone.

From the perspective of someone who held a Master’s license for twenty years and was in a few tight spots, the best line in the song is:

“Does any one know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?”

I was painfully aware of this lyric during those tough times.

PS: Man plans, God laughs

Billboard Hot 100 for 11/19/1976

It always amazed me how a song about a tragedy in the heavy freight shipping industry on the Great Lakes could be made into hit record, especially in the disco era.

But dat riff, doe

That with the accompanying Native American sounding music sets the tone...

That is the main reason when I listened to the cover I said "some songs should not be covered."

eerie !

What's even more eerie is that Gordon Lightfoot know what the old cook said.
