On a positive note if your wife is annoying you then you can disappear in that house for hours and not see her

Wonder what the yearly upkeep, utilities etc are?

So, at bare minimum you're probably looking at a good $1M per year just to pay the bills and keep the place up. Limit the clientele willing to pay that much for annual household to just those willing to live in the Birmingham area and you likely wind up with a very small list of people.

And this might be low, I could see it closer to 1.5 or 2 million. People are saying the cost/sq ft doesn't add up, but owning a property like this is buying a huge boat. Even when you can afford the purchase price all the other stuff gets you.

I love the dudes on here who live in some dog shite 1700 sf ranch in Metairie saying they would never buy something like that.

Can’t blame these folks selling these huge mansions with all the support staff being deported.

I would just go live in the attic and climb down when they were out of the house in a wing of the house that is unused and they would never find me

high-quality 2000-square-foot houses cost?

Let’s say 250,000.

Where do you live where this is possible?

Is that Scrushy’s old house? Looks very much like his atrocious and ostentatious decorating style.

Castles of old had tens if not hundreds of people living there. Most of the things we think of being manufactured in a small town were manufactured in towns, plus the church and supporting religious population, plus the knights and their support staff. Then the cooks, bakers, etc.etc.

That big a house now? Make a couple of maids to keep the bathrooms clean, and a cook to feed the owners. Most of their help would not live in because they wouldn't want them to live in.
