"Anyway, we both identify as bi and queer and we make sure that our kids know that. They have even been to a summer camp for kids in queer families."

My parents never were like "we are attracted to people of the opposite sex and will parent our children accordingly"

Why do people who are NOT heterosexual make their identity based around their sexuality?

I don't care.

"Hey I'm Delacroix22 and I like sticking my penis in vaginas!"

"Hey I'm Jeff! I like sticking my penis in men's mouths!"

"COOL! I totally understand you as a person now, let's have a conversation!"

........ I don't get it why people make their sexuality their core identity

These parents obviously dont actually know anything about what they're talking about and are the dangerous kind of stupid.

My daughter is 13, there is a kid down the street that is like an acquaintance of hers. He's come over a few times with other kids to eat pizza and watch movies. 4 years ago was the first time I ever saw him and could tell he was gay then. She never said anything about it until 2 or so years after I met him. He has taken cheer camp and is openly out and his parents seem fine with it. They are straight. Kids are born gay.

That's the thing at that age a child very well could be gay, but they shouldn't know they're gay unless they've been indoctrinated and tought things that a 9 year old has no business knowing

As late as the 1960s she would have been diagnosed as mentally ill, maybe they had it right to begin with.

But do you not see the childhood stigma that could come from it before you're 100% positive? I'd say wait at least until you're 16. It's not like you should be sexually active before then anyway.

used to be freaks and oddballs didn't have such platform to annoy every body else with it.

It doesn't bother me all that much but they are raising a two-legged pet, not a fully developed human.

What an AMAZING coincidence that people like this would have a kid so eager to be "gay" at such a young age

This is really the thing that confuses me the most about the whole spiel thing in the OP. There is such an emphasis on the importance of "identity" and what they identify as. It isn't something that I actually spend a lot of time thinking about about. I identify as myself. The rest of it are just aspects that are a part and not necessarily even the most important parts. I'm not trying to identify as anyone besides myself.

Sure, I am a white, heterosexual, southern male. These are parts of what has made me the way that I am. But I think things like my integrity, honesty, generosity, intelligence, even negative things like my anxiety, neuroticism, and shyness are far larger parts of who I am. These were the sorts of things that I talked about with my parents, and the values that they tried to instill in me. Sex wasn't that big of a topic in our house growing up. Ideas about it kind of flowed from the rest.

Because identity politics, until the past election, equaled power. The more aggrieved your identity was, the more power you wielded.

I don't think "being gay" should be labeled as a mental illness. Maybe its just the stigma associated with mental illness, but I associate someone with a mental illness as someone who is a threat to society. Someone who could snap one day and go shoot up a public area or can be triggered by the smallest thing that causes them to go completely insane.

We are all wired different and people who are homosexual, that's just the way they were wired..
