Lisa S. Palmer dropped out of Hunter College two years ago, but she has since refused to vacate her dorm room on the campus. Hunter has now taken Palmer to court to try to evict the Delaware native.

She hasn't paid rent since 2016, according to an eviction lawsuit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court, the New York Post reports.

The 32-year-old “racked up a staggering $94,000 in unpaid residence hall charges on account of her continued occupancy, all the while ignoring Hunter College’s service of additional vacate notices,” said the suit.

“As of today, June 7, 2016 you are still in occupancy of the aforementioned room,” Michell Quock, assistant director of residence life, wrote to Palmer two summers ago.

Last fall a Hunter attorney continued the battle to get rid of Palmer, sending her an eviction notice that said in bold-faced type: “THIRTY DAY NOTICE OF TERMINATION.”

“You are required to vacate and surrender the premises on or before Oct. 31, 2017 at 12:00 p.m.,” the attorney wrote.

But the one-time geography major, who now works at an architecture firm, refuses to leave her 100-square-foot Room E579 at the school’s co-ed dorm.

“I plan on fighting the lawsuit and while I fight it, I’m going to stay,” Palmer told the Post.

How have they waited this long to evict? Sounds like incompetence.

People like her don't belong in our society. Literally scum who think the rules don't apply to them. Spoiled bitch.

You can't be arrested for this? Is it not a form of trespassing?

The laws on squatting are pretty ridiculous.

quote:

But New York City has its own set of adverse possession laws—and those laws grant a person squatter's rights after just 30 days! 30 DAYS. After 30 days, a NYC squatter has the right to continue living there until the actual owner goes through the process of legal eviction.

How hard is it to call the police or constable and have her tossed out on her arse?

I’m so glad to not live in New York or California where evictions are a complete clusterfrick.

Is this over two years? She couldn't find a decent apartment or even a house? Would have been cheaper for sure.
