Can't speak on Australia but I can say that there are gators fricking everywhere

You generally have to agitate the shite out of a gator to have any risk of it doing anything to you. Australian crocs are a completely different story.

This news makes me concerned. I've recently started snorkeling out to the artificial reefs in the 30a area. I know sharks like to hang out where the second bar ends and things start to get deeper....which is right where the reefs are. But man its cool to swim with the turtles.

So alligators all over the South

When I was a kid, I lived in Winter Haven in Central Florida. It was a town with "one hundred lakes." Bear in mind that that was in the early 1960's. The lakes had pumped in white sand beaches and friends and I spent a large part of the summer swimming there. Little kids played in the water too and there were no alligators.

After alligators became protected it seems that every puddle in a Walmart parking lot had a big gator. Looking on Google Maps, today there are no more white sand beaches.

without fully understanding the ramifications to the ecosystem, I am all for the near elimination of any gator over 6ft. Let some big dudes grow in the protected swamps but dangerous gators in every water hole sucks.

And they say you can’t get a decent meal along 30A.

How does that matter? Grizzlies and wolves haven’t been in Colorado or Idaho for a long time. They will be soon.

You just have to understand your place. You are at a distinct disadvantage the second you enter the water. There are no trees to climb and no quick escapes. You aren't at the top of the food chain and you are different to the things that live there.

That's where we keep the sharks. Any decision to enter the ocean recreationally has to account for the possibility that sharks will do shark things, just like every other creature in the ocean will do their thing.

I am only typing this rebuttal because I think you are an overall intelligent person. Otherwise I wouldn't waste my time.

Your position is one-sided and obtuse. If a hiker goes in the woods and gets mauled by a bear, oh well, shouldn't have gone in the woods. Stay in your safe space. If a guy is mowing his lawn and runs over a yellow jacket nest and dies from Anaphylaxis, it's his fault for mowing his lawn against Mother Nature's wishes. If an old 70+ woman is walking to her car at a restaurant in Yellowstone and a bison gores her in the parking lot, it's her fault for walking from the entrance to her car in the parking lot. If a Hilton Head resident in a retirement community is refilling her bird feeder and a large alligator comes out of the lagoon and kills her, it was her fault for refilling her bird feeder.

Every scenario I typed above has happened in real life, in the last five years. Some, multiple. I'm not making up a single one of the above scenarios. And public commentary in every one of those horrible scenarios was "well you were stepping into their domain".

Humans and the other predators of the world can absolutely live in balance. But balance means balance. You are an intelligent person, certainly you know what I mean.
