Been a tough couple of months, but it was time to put those frickers down. Smelt like shite, felt like shite, had no energy. gradually starting to feel better.

For anyone considering, trust me in saying as an ex smoker for 20 years it is starting to be one of the best decisions of my life. Just gotta keep trucking and not look back.

Tried that once. The wife brought home a pack of cigs 3 days later and said she’d rather watch me die of lung cancer than watch me dip.

Never smoked cigarettes.

Just marijuana, and pipe resin.

I was smoke free for about 3 1/2 years after smoking for 15 years. I thought I was in the clear but one bachelor party weekend I started and been struggling to quit since.

I've cut down from 1-1.5 packs a day to two packs a week, but I don't know how to completely kick the habit. What did you do?

hard to tell you everything, but the most important thing that got the ball rolling was the idea of being a better dad to my children and being able to be around for all the important things in their life.

Have an absolutely massive heart attack.

Be lucky enough to be close by to a hospital with an amazing cardiothoracic surgeon that was on shift that night.

Somehow survive against near impossible odds.

Take a good look at your young toddlers when you wake up.

fricking quit cold turkey so you can watch them grow up.

That's what my dad did.

I switched to a JUUL, it is super easy. Disgusted by the taste of a cigarette now.

Good for you for quitting that foul habit.

I quit cold turkey 16 years ago this past New Year's Day and will never put another cigarette, cigar, pipe, dip, etc. in my mouth again.

I smoked off and on for over 30 years, having quit for a few years at a time, but picking that habit back up again and decided enough was enough when I turned 50. I made it my plan to quit cold turkey when the New Year rang in, and haven't had a smoke since.

You're past the hard part now being 3 months in. Now, if I could just get the Mrs. to quit, but that's not up to me...……….

Good work, you're already there.

I walked away from those nasty bitches 22 years ago and have never regretted it.

Don't look back!

After pack-a-day for years and two prior quits, I quit cold turkey almost 20 years ago when I realized the following things on some level deeper and longer lasting than the normally fleeting conclusions you come to:

1. I got no real pleasure out of it, and I was doing it just because it was what I always do.
2. I was tired of paying for it.
3. I was tired of running out of cigs and having to go out late or in bad weather to buy a pack.
4. I was tired of smelling like smoke.
5. I was tired of looking at and smelling ashtrays.
6. I was tired of burning my fingers when I tried to remove cig from mouth and it stuck to my lips, sometimes resulting in a hot ember falling into my lap while driving.

No doubt there were other things. I've given up an alcohol habit in a similar way. Just basically got tired of it and ultimately stopped going through the motions of doing it, thankfully with no severe withdrawal, just annoying cravings that subsided pretty quickly.

I quit for about 10 months and then thought I could handle a smoke here and there...now I’m back to about a half pack a day. I didn’t even have a physical urge to smoke when I started back up. Don’t be stupid like me.

So good. This is how you know you’re a legit smoker.

How about when you have that first morning cigarette lit before you open your eyes? It was more important to me to have that first cig than to open my eyes. Jeez.

I’m about to make 9 years smoke free after 25 years as a smoker. The last ten of which I smoked about 2 cartons a week.
