Lol, so the disaster of a city is less of a disaster and that should entice me to stay?

Just funny that you would defend nola when it was twice as bad as it is now.

Like defending a football coach after years of going 3-9 or 4-8, but then saying you can't defend him anymore after going 8-4 and 7-5.

that corresponded with the rest of the nation. We just hear about every single crime now.

New Orleans is still tops in the nation as far as murder rate goes.

This is kind of hard to believe. French Quarter Fest, there were at least hundreds of people in the 800 block of Decatur.

Was coming here to post the same thing. There were still tons of people out there at that time yesterday.

The first robbery reported Sunday occurred at 4:17 p.m. in the French Quarter. A 20-year-old man told police an unknown male approached him in the 800 block of Decatur Street and produced a weapon. The robber demanded the man's money and phone, and police said the man complied. The robber then fled, the police said

Geesh, there were a ton of people around there at that time (I wasn't far from there then). That's freaking nuts.

Never said it does.

I'm saying the average person is way less likely to be a victim of violent crime in NOLA today than they were for the majority of recent history.

I cant find where they were toying with murder rates but unless my mind is playing tricks on me, I recall reading something about it.

I would be more interested in where the crimes are perpetrated now vs 15-20 years ago. for many years people said just dont walk this many blocks away and whatnot. essentially saying just stay away from the black parts of town and you will be fine.

I think that's still mostly true.

Sure there's still a significant amount of crime that occurs in "white" areas or tourist areas. But I think it's a safe bet that the vast majority of violent crime occurs in areas that are known high crime areas with few or no whites/tourists.

yeah so I think that is the big question. are these tourist/white areas seeing more crime now as opposed to pre-katrina.

I used to be the staunchest NOLA supporter, but I just don't have the energy anymore. I think a lot of folks need to take off their black and gold glasses.

How has the population of New Orleans changed over time since Katrina?
It's gentrified quite a bit since 2010. 2013 seemed to be the peak year where everything was going right. Sadly, it seems to be slowing down as crime is getting worse due to incompetence from the mayor's office and a thinned out police force.
