The heaviest smartphone users click, tap or swipe on their phone 5,427 times a day, according to researcher Dscout. That's the top 10 percent of phone users, so one would expect it to be excessive. However, the rest of us still touch the addictive things 2,617 times a day on average.

I don't come close to that. I realize there are TONS of people who pretty much keep their phone in their hand all the time.

The sad part is that all of us recognize this but still continue playing on our phones.

I've often thought this. When I was in college (early 2000's), we used phones only out of necessity and a few text messages. I wish I could go back to that era, just was a lot less wasted time.

That being said, I fully admit I am married to my iPhone.

So much time wasted.

I mean, you say that, but what would that time be spent doing if smart phones didn't exist? Goofing off online, having meaningless conversations with others, etc...

The time is going to be wasted on something eventually.

This is a good point

We can't assume that all of that time would be spent doing something productive

2,617 per day x 365 days = 955,205 per year

I wonder if the average person will lie on their death bed at 85 years old and wish they had those 11 years and 118 days back..

Do people regret reading books? It's not like using your phone is necessarily replacing something that isn't just wasting time just the same.

I primarily use my phone to stream Spotify all day, play WWF and read a post or two from TD while stopped at a red light.

Desktop all the way. My phone for when I'm at work and want to visit websites I'm not supposed to visit.

It depends on the book, doesn't it?

If it's a Saturday night after a football game, 2617 threads are started about ref's cheating.

My phone is not my life. I interact with my phone less than 10 times per day. Generally it's to charge it, and then ignore whoever is calling me.
