Kid starts drivers ed tomorrow. Got on the DMV website and made sure I had all the paperwork necessary to get his TIP card today.

Spend hour at DMV.

Lady tells us we need a school enrollment form? WTF he's got is high priced private school ID on him! There is NO MENTION of that form anywhere in the website that has as it MAIN #1 LINK "Temporary Instructional Permits - CLICK HERE".

Schools are closed.

Fortunately at the high priced private school he's enrolled, people give a shite and there's some young temp manning the phones this morning... and preparing school enrollment forms for dozens of taxpayers.

Now the 2 hour trip to pick it up and then to the back of the DMV line I guess.

Grrr.

Government is employed by thousands of tenured employees who dont like to work, dont like to change, and are unwilling to learn technology.

No license - has to walk. Takes 2 hours to walk just about anywhere.

Live on Northshore - school in nola. They'll probably close the Causeway and it'll be a 3 hour round trip.

Mandeville DMV

Given a choice, you want the most rural, backwoods DMV you can find. Faster overall, and looser about paperwork.

Also, call the local, never the main DMV. And you can call any of them. The one in Winnaboro is going to pick up a lot faster than the one in Mandeville.

So they do not offer Driver's Ed at your kid's high priced private school? I know that they don't do it at the Public High Schools anymore because , "Goddabnit" we jess cain't afford it no more here, but if yawanta, you can go and spend 450-700 at one of these here drivin' schools that are "licensesd" by yer friends here in Baton Rouge

Apparently it has to be a signed original. Won't take scanned/faxed copies.

The "it's a racket" discussion could be a whole new thread. Did that twice already, so I've succumbed to the vagaries of the state and now just take it.

Yeah. Other schools don't "give a shite" because a staff member isn't on hand 24 hours a day and holidays just waiting to deliver an enrollment form to desperate parents of kids needing driver permits.

I'm not in any way defending the crappy DMV, but you would think if the driving school was worth a crap, they would have told you exactly what you needed. Especially given how poorly run the DMV is.

Also, 25 years ago when I was in driving school, I needed a school verification form.

And let me guess... Jesuit, right? Only those clowns are smug enough to refer to "high priced private school" multiple times, while living on the NS.
