I was living in Dallas at the time and got stuck in traffic after news of her death, all the Mexicans were out in their cars blasting her music and causing traffic nightmares

I have grown to appreciate her since her death, I guess living in Corpus Christi will do that. It's a dark day in this city's history, but she definitely had an impact on that style of music.

I was in third grade, and had never heard of her at the time.

I thought she, like her father were proudly Mexican-American and made a point to make that a big part of their identity.
