From 2002-2005 I was a Diebold installer, I used to install the best camera systems, ATM and VAT machines at banks.
My cost on the system would be $15,086. I put time in that post. But please tell us more about how scared you are to go to the Krystal burger at night.

Only on the Internet. I'm a low voltage distributor that's specialize in CCTV. I deal with these things on a daily basis and have experience dealing with quotes for local government projects. I can tell you that just the whosale equipment cost is more than what you came up with in your rant.

I didn't just pull numbers from the air. I found decent rated products and then did the math.
The problem is that in a profit driven enviroment we tend to mark thins up a lot. Hell I do it too. Selling parts that cost me $2 for $45. But look, these cameras have gone down in price. Yes maybe a BNC wired and networked system would cost a ton more. But a wireless system and the biggest problem would be the DVR, but since you have experience with it, why don't you come up with a figure? You could be the one who has the install and saves the city money.
IMO you don't NEED $500-1000 cameras.
It wasn't a rant, it was trying to find a solution. I haven't done this stuff in ten years now. But then it was all BNC and 8 channel DVRs that cost $10k each. I know since then prices have dropped.

Brah we ain't talking about putting a system in the Brothers food mart. The city just doesn't buy some bull shite off of newegg and go in get some installer off of Craigslist. I can point out all the crap in your orginal post on this subject to prove that you know just enough to get your self in trouble.

I have 3 HD cameras, Digital Watchdog VMAX480 500MB DVR set up at my house and I think I paid around $3700. System is bad arse son.
