I've never noticed too much riff raff at the balcony except for the night my brother told me there was a homeless drunk in the bar and I was the only one that could understand him in the entire place my brother said I would jibber off some unknown language to this guy and he would understand me when no one else could. I some how calmed the drunk down and for some odd reason he listened to me. I was wasted by this point obviously.

A buddy and I got into a fight with 5 thugged out guys there because he knocked a drink out of one of their hands accidentally with a pool stick. The guy wanted my buddy to buy him, his woman, and his buddies all drinks. Buddy offered to replace the spilled one, and it just went off from there.

That was one of the few times I have hung out downstairs. I don't do it at all anymore

I hate the place, used to hang out there a lot in the late 90's. Notice they put up all the signs for dress code and what not.

Good God I really didn't know that crime was so bad in the quarter. I normally stay in the FQ when on business just because I like walking to places instead of driving. I am always alone and pretty much just assumed that the FQ was more secure because of the tourists. Glad I havent walked down the wrong side street...

Any other parts of the city I could stay in that is walkable?

MARRERO, La. -- The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office has called for a SWAT roll in Marrero.
The incident is taking place in the 5800 block of St. John Avenue.
It's not clear what's prompted the SWAT roll, as deputies have released no other details.
We have a crew en route and will bring you more here on WWLTV.com and during our evening newscast.

The swat roll is happening in Lincolnshire, which is pretty much the worst neighborhood on the westbank. That area has 1500+ sq ft houses for less than $20K that have been sitting on the market for months. Not at all surprising that a swat team would be called out there.

Its been a while since I have been in Memphis, but I recall Beal St having checkpoints at the entrances. Maybe NOPD needs to block off about 6 blocks of Bourbon and have manned checkpoints at every entrance. Maybe off duty TSA agents can make a little extra pay. They are pretty efficient at their job.

The problems just won't hang in that 6 blocks
