I'm actually pulling for this kid (well, a silver behind the U.S.). It could raise awareness to the differences within the religion and how radicalism is dividing the world and destroying their image.

I certainly don't blame him for his brother being a POS but I'm certainly not rooting for him because, as someone else pointed out, the last thing I need while I'm trying to watch the Olympics is some Islam sympathizing Bob Costas/Tom Rinaldi piece.

Alot of people don't realize Roland Doucet is/was Jeff Doucet's brother. The former is a respected happy dude with a Cajun Radio Show on 100.7 while the latter was rightfully executed in the BR airport in 1984.

Although he may telling the truth, what did you expect him to say? That he knew his brother was a terrorist and did nothing and he should be disqualified from the games?

Assuming he's telling the truth, why would I hold what his brother did against him?

It's one thing if it was his son and the he was some sort of alcoholic shitty father, but it was his brother who just dropped off the face of the earth.

ISIS member
isnt that a little misleading? Not every terrorist who commits an attack is Muslim, and even if he is, not every Muslim is in ISIS.

Yeah, this guy is saying all the right things of course, but can't think of a better venue to commit mass jihad than the Olympics. This solidifies my decision not to travel to Rio and attend. The guy needs to be locked up and interrogated while a thorough investigation is conducted. He shouldn't be allowed to compete it's better to be safe and vigilant than sorry.

I mean we all know of at least one family that has the one member that got way too Jesusy - you eventually quit talking to them because every conversation, Facebook thread etc ends up coming to down to Jesus or asking if you've been saved- I imagine it's like that only with the "the prophet" and a lecture about foreign policy added in.

Meanwhile this guy-- if he's as good as he seems to be (like a legit badass and not just someone who made it because his country didn't have many options) probably trains, 8 hours a day and works a full-time job.

You're applying your logic to the scenario. These people live with family members, under the same roof forever.

Eh.... He's a elite athlete (really is, this isn't a "our country only has like 10 people who do this sport" the guys the EU champion right) I doubt he's doing too much with his family between training and working full-time (he's not exactly in a revenue sport).

Nice factoid, didn't know that.

There used to be a bank of pay phones (remember those?) right at the security exit, they were removed specifically because of that incident. Kind of a dumb overreaction, really.

Wut?
I served 14 years and fought in foreign lands for one reason: Liberty.
Lock up an Olympic athlete because of his brother? That's the opposite of why I served.

Blind hatred and blanket judgements is what perpetuates our problems abroad.
