Pretty much everyone ive ever known that has owned a Range or Land Rover has had more issues than what id consider normal. Several people.

If you feel like you have to buy a Land Rover Defender…
You should go the complete opposite direction reliabilty-wise and buy a low mileage V8 Land Cruiser or Lexus LX570. You’ll spend close to the same amount of money and in 10 years it will still be worth a lot of money, with few or zero problems in between.

I owned a Triumph TR8 for a few years. That's a TR7 body with a small V8 under the hood. Was a fun car to drive.

I have a 2025 Defender 110 with the P525 5.0 supercharged v8.
I love that thing. Knock on wood no issues so far, but I think the key for any high end vehicle is maintenance. I am / will definitely service and change oil more frequently than Land Rover guidance.
I think the i6 engine (P400) has had some DC converter issues here and there from what I’ve seen. The engine I have is known as being reliable, but had timing chain issues over time — understand it’s been sorted, but having oil changes every 5-7K miles sounds like it’s the trick.
The 5.0 supercharged v8, is a LOT more expensive, but my god is it sweet. BTW, that engine was discontinued for 2027 (so now I tell my wife I have a collectors item and spending a lot more was worth it
). The only v8 will be the 4.4L turbo BMW engine in the OCTA I believe.

Following up as it’s nearly a year in and first time putting her through some real paces.
It’s a bit of a pavement princess build with these v8s with 22” wheels and cross-contact continental tires for daily road driving.
Have taken it multiple times on the beach for 5+ mile runs on outer banks of NC with no issue. Throw on sand mode, lift 3” and go. With the proper tires, this thing is unstoppable.
