It says marine instructor school. Is that a school for instructors or is it just in the name?

Those that can't do, teach.

SF units usually don't participate in these sorts of competitions. The one team that did scored pretty well.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect them to perform as well as the guys they train.

Do you expect an NFL coach to sling a football as well as his quarterback?

To be a scout sniper instructor you have to be a highly experienced and among the best scout snipers in the Marine Corps.

Hey show some respect.

SEALSs are a different breed, almost species, of human. You can know a SEAL just by the way he carries himself (and by the 25th place ribbon he has from the international sniper competition).

My little brother competed twice. He actually got to come me home early from his first tour so he could compete the second time.

The NG teams probably were on TDY and/or practiced on their own. The one SF team was most likely guys who happened to be on post at the time. SF runs its own sniper school apart from Big Army. They're more than capable but usually opt not to participate. Ditto with Best Ranger.

Marine scout snipers 10th, green berets 14th, navy seals 25th. Rangers lead the way. These are all US special forces units. They have different jobs but the one that is most surprising is the marine scout sniper team at 10th. Thought they would be higher since this is basically all they do.

I am surprised that FBI (I suspect HRT) did so poorly.

But then again, they aren't shooting 1,000 meters, but 100.

At one time the FBI snipers went through Marine SS school. Don't know if they still do.

I am willing to bet there was a wide variation among the teams in terms of preparation. Training for 6 months vs "We have some unused travel vouchers. You guys want to go to Benning this weekend and shoot?"

I'm sure those shooting skills for the USCG team will come in handy in National City, CA. I made a wrong turn at Coronado and ended up there. Scary place.

Thats an extremely awful comparison. You don't even have to play football to be a coach.

You have to an elite sniper just to even get a look for instructor school.
