The first all-new BMW M2 Coupe rolls off the line today and shares the assembly line with a few of its stable mates at the BMW plant in Leipzig. BMW launched the series production of the first M2s along side the BMW 2 Series Coupe and Convertible, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the BMW 1 Series 5-door on the main line.

BMW M2 uses a brand-new six-cylinder in-line engine, with M TwinPower Turbo technology and three-liter displacement, develops 272 kW/370 hp with peak torque of 465 Nm / 343 lb-ft. (Combined fuel consumption, with six-speed manual gearbox: 8.5 l/100 km [33.2 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 199 g/km; with optional M Double Clutch transmission [M DCT]: 7.9 l/100 km [35.8 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 185 g/km).

Peak torque of 465 Nm (343 lb-ft) can be increased to as much as 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) in short bursts under overboost.

With the optional M Double Clutch Transmission (M DCT) in place and Launch Control activated, BMW M2 sprints from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.3 seconds (4.5 s with the six-speed manual gearbox). The top speed of the new BMW M2 is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph). If the M Driver’s Package – which includes a BMW Driving Experience voucher for a track training course – is specified, this cut-off point doesn’t arrive until 270 km/h (168 mph).

4.8" shorter than M3.

The M4 is literally the M3 (which has 4 doors now), but with 2 doors. The M2 is an entirely smaller platform.

This would have looked much better.

They made a 1M a few years back off the old 1 series platform.

This is just the next generation of that which has changed names to the 2 series so this is the M2.

Disagree. The wheels on the car in OP look a million times better than those.

There's no comparison IMO.

ETA 2: And these wheels clearly aren't black.

Basically a 1M coupe, only it's attractive this time.

I don't mind the smaller BMWs looking so aggressive, but I hope most of those lines don't show their face in the 5 or 7.
