My injuries cant get worse and I'm less prone to get injured while working out than I am in daily, non-gym activities.

you can be good at OLY lifts but suck at touch n go. That kind of stuff needs practice if you're new or never competed

I'll get to move up (or down, depending on how you look at it) in classification soon, so my chances increase in the near future.
As in on to Masters? If so, then you might be on the level where you can make games and then ignore this.
I'm not sure what else you could mean by switching classifications?
I've competed myself before a few times, and I've worked out with some really good athletes (regional and games competitors). I know a guy who was 24 and top 150 in Central East last year but he's seen the writing on the wall with the new format. It's basically a professional sport now. You won't see many newcomers working a regular job and climbing ranks to the games. It's going to be full time cross fitters. Focus more on improving your health and competing against yourself.

It was basically a professional sport before. Even the common people who are actually "Games caliber" was tiny. I don't see how anything changes for the 95% of people that do the Open for fun annually.

Good technique goes a long way.
Don't let it fool you

I don't do touch and go oly lifts at all unless it's extremely light weight. Ever since last year and the first open workout. Our trainer recorded the ones of us who could potentially place a score for our team. I watched the video after of me and saw how awful my Olympic form was in those situations. The weight was light so it didn't feel like awful form. Ever since then, I've decided it's not even worth it to do T&G for me anymore, personally

pretty sure he's into some type of powerlifting.
Crossfit is new to him, as he said

Correct. I'm using the open workouts as a gauge to see where I need to improve on the most over the course of the next year:
My goal is to compete a handful of times this year locally and hit Wodapalooza next Jan.
Don't get me wrong. Masters weights are still are bear. The hang clean/front squat/jerk complex in Miami last month was 225, 245 and 265.
225 is pretty much where I top out now with some bad technique. Hopefully getting that corrected will help those weights go up.
My biggest hurdle will be the ankle. Surgey is required for me to fully get it right. Just waiting until I accrue enough PTO to take a week off and get it done.

It was my understanding that they've cut down the amount going to regionals (to 20 I think?) and now have a scales division. To me- it seems like the open will be the weed out. Before, regionals were sort of a weed out. Open workouts were fairly simple. One could be great at the open because you can get by with not having elite strength, or elite advanced movements (muscle-ups, HS walks, etc.). Now I think you'll see more advanced workouts that really weed out people even before regionals. There have been individuals make regionals who could barely string together MU, who didn't really have elite strength, and so on.

Consistently rolling out my legs and working on mobility daily have helped tremendously. I used to be the guy who only stretched when I felt like it, now I do it every day.

Gonna make a late go at the gym today..
Of course, after doing about 75+ snatches yesterday off-program, snatches are on the docket today.
15min AMRAP
1 Power Snatch at 155
1 Round of Cindy
2 Power Snatches at 155
1 Round of Cindy
...add an additional power snatch every round.
Cindy, again, is:
5 pullups
10 pushups
15 squats

I've done cross fit for the past month now after about 25 years of "bodybuilding" type routines. I don't understand the hate for crossfit. Best workouts I've ever had and the camaraderie is great at the facility I go to. In terms of functional fitness and athleticism, cross fit smokes anything you can do at a Golds, etc.

I also knocked out Cindy and her power snatch at lunch.

Any of y'all going to Slidell this weekend? I think they have a comp over there.

3 friends from the gym are competing Sunday in the Men's scaled division.
I expect them to win.

I have some buddies going. They should do pretty well also. I know one of them won something out in Slidell last year.

I saw something on Livingsocial for a month at a Crossfit gym here in BR for $50. I was thinking of signing up pretty much primarily for getting help with olympic techniques/form. I feel like mine goes out the window sometimes.

I'll be there. Not competing but my coaches are the ones putting it on. It looks like it's going to be pretty big.

Yeah, that's GCF.
They do that every year to let potential new members try it out for a month to see if they like it.
