Know we have some Jeep owners on the board. I have a 2008 Rubicon. Structurally in really good shape but there is a damn electrical ghost. I am on my 3rd computer in 3 years. I love the vehicle but can find anyone to find the cause. In addition to the computer, there have been 5-10 times where I hit a bump and the whole thing dies. I pull over and pop it on the computer and it starts right up. The other thing is randomly the windshield wipers turn on, horn starts going off, and flashers start. I had them replace the clockspring which was on recall but it didn’t help. NOW... the lights work only time to time... randomly.

I have come to the point to get rid of it but don’t want to sell it to an individual and screw them. Anyone face a crazy issue like this and/or any recommendations on selling it? Has about 110k miles on it.

Maybe it’s you, not the car. Ever think you may be haunted?

The computer thing is possible a loose wire in the harness connector at the computer. Wiggle test it when running. If it dies then you've found one gremlin.

Structurally in good shape? Why knight for a lemon? Any steel car’s structure is going to be fine for a few centuries as long as you don’t wreck it. With that many electrical problems and I can only guess thousands in repairs, time to junk the Jeep and get a car that performs like a car, not a cheap toaster.

Yeah I am fine with getting rid of it. Not donating it to a junk yard but any recommendations on how to get rid of it without screwing someone?

Sounds like fuse or relay issues and maybe not the main computer itself.

Try to dump it off at a Carmax?

It’s the ghost of that hooker you ran over in Rayne that night leaving the Frog Festival

Just tell them the issues up front so that the buyer can make the decision on their own. To me it sounds like a bad ground or a loose wire in the harness.

ETA: If you sell it to a dealership or some sort then caveat emptor. They have technicians to look over it and then if there are issues it is on the dealership who sells it not you

You're not screwing anyone if you fully detail the problems/issues to potential buyers. They'll have full knowledge if they decide to buy. I sold an old expedition that was having issues and the buyer's brother is a GM mechanic so it wasn't a big deal to him.

1st question I'd like to ask: Do you have any aftermarket electrical parts that you've changed? ANYTHING electrical. Lights, radio, anything?

My 1999 and 2000 XJs both had ghosts aka shitty thin wiring

There was an aftermarket amp and aftermarket lights on the front.

Come to think of it a winch is installed (done by Jeep) and problems arose after that.

Detach that, as far back away from the winch as possible. Meaning, don't disconnect wires on the winch end.

Do you happen to have any sort of wiring "pod" installed where various accessories are connected?

Not that I am aware of but will check. Thanks for the helpful thoughts and advice.

If any of you want this sucker happy to play let’s make a deal.

And in a normal turn of events... get back to the airport and the lights turn right on.

Speaking of horn going off. Here's a video to brighten everybody's Friday.

ETA: Video is SFW. If you don't laugh at the video, you're a damn peter licker.

Most vehicles in the snow belt are rust buckets in 10-20 years. Toyota recalled the late 90s and early 2000s Tundra, Sequoia, and Tacoma for the frame being unsafe due to rust in less than 12 years.
