20 year old bottle of VO

Found a 20y/o unopened bottle of Seagrams VO while cleaning out my Dad's house today.
Do you think it's ok to drink it?
Is the alcohol content any higher because of the age?
I know it's 20y/o because my Dad obsessesively wrote the date on everything.

It's safe to drink. I doubt the alcohol content went up.

Yea the alcohol aged in the glass/plastic bottle.

It stopped aging when they bottled it.
It should taste like any other bottle of VO.

I feel I should explain to you about alcohol. Fermentation creates alcohol. By the time they put anything in a bottle it has stopped fermenting. If it fermented much further in the bottle it would explode because the byproduct of fermentation is co2. Booze is made from yeast turning sugar into alcohol and giving off co2 (perhaps among other things). Time may change the character of the product but the alcohol content would be all set by the time it got into your dad's hands.

Sorry to hear that.
My own father is turning 70 and is starting to really show it. I have no idea how I will handle it when his day comes.
Maybe save it for a day when you feel like reminiscing about him.

My dad drank a lot of VO. When he passed we found bottles in his work shop lol.

It'lll be fine to drink. BTW, my FIL writes dates on everything he buys; tools, spray cans of paint or oil, containers on the parts he bought and replaced on whatever, and every bit of food wrapped in the fridge or receiver. Containers will have a strip of tape with date written on it. he will keep the box of the purchased item for years in case he has to return it.... Maybe just well organized or maybe just an OCD thing.

My parents, now deceased, love them some VO. When I read your thread it reminded of the times my brother and I were sent to their fav. liquor store to pick up there hooch. That's what they called it. My brother was 15 me 10. They had a drive thru and my dad called in the order along with some scotch, gin, and vodka. They intertained a lot.
