Mississippi has solved this problem...canceled the inspection program about 2 years ago.

It is exactly a safety issue. This way the cops can see the driver when he/she pulls you over and walks up to the car.
Also, law enforcement is allowed to tint their front windows as dark as needed for their protection even in their off duty vehicles. Imagine sitting at a red light and a car rolls up next to you carrying the guy you arrested last week. He recognizes you and all hell breaks lose.

If inspection stickers were actually about “safety”, then “failed” cars (aka “unsafe”) caught driving should be impounded until fixed. The fact that it’s just an expensive fine and then “unsafe” car is just allowed back on the road shows it’s all a scam.
Has anyone actually showed the data of of car wrecks due to unsafe vehicles for states with inspections vs those without?
Just add $10 per year to the car registration fee and move on. (But then the cops miss out on their fines and Bubba misses out on his steady cash flow at his shady mechanic shop. Anyone want to guess how much side cash those dudes make from selling stickers for cash to their friends with tint, etc?)
