We pulled our kids out of school when we learned they were only being taught evolution theory in science while intelligent design wasn’t even mentioned.
It's pretty unfortunate, especially when the evidence for evolution isn't really materializing.

Public education stops sucking and kids stop being indoctrinated with woke insanity?

For public schools, this has been a slow erosion since they have completely removed ability to discipline from teachers and admins.
No child left behind!!!
Dems policies almost invariably make life worse for poor (making them reliant on handouts or taking away criminal punishment

or taking away discipline in schools),
No child left behind!!!
but they continue to vote for dems.
True

Half of this board would quit teaching a couple days in with what public schools teachers put up with.
The safety and discipline issues they deal with are a direct result of the liberal policies teachers overwhelmingly support. I feel zero sympathy for them.

Lots of people enter these threads and have zero clue about the realities of teaching.
1. It’s not a 9-4 job. That’s for the students, not the teachers.
2. Somehow people on here think summers are three months. Because of the extracurriculars I do, it’s about 5 weeks. Most teachers look at 2 months for summer.
3. I don’t think the biggest factor is about pay. It’s the bullshite that constantly gets added on to our responsibilities. On average, I will work a 55 hour week. Sure, I get a stipend that supposedly accounts for this extra time, but when you do the math, I’ll make a couple bucks an hour for the “extra time”. I’d rather not put in the extra time at all and punt the stipend, but I don’t have a choice.
4. You want better teachers? What is your community doing to invest and make the jobs attractive? Parents can and should make their voices heard at school board or PTA meetings. That’s how you can tailor the education toward your values.
I could go on. For the most part, I like the situation I’m in. And unlike a big portion of this peanut gallery, I’m not going to shite on other professions that I don’t really have knowledge about. It seems easy to sandbag on healthcare workers, but I really don’t know what the hell they deal with on a daily basis.
I’m not sure why teaching has become this lightning rod for controversy.

Yeah, this blanket statement is the type of thing that reveals some of the ignorance I just posted about.

Nothing. These people have no marketable skills. They can't do anything else.
Stop pretending teachers do something amazing.
ETA: I should clarify that my comment mostly applies to English, foreign language, PE, band, history, choir-type teachers.
Teachers are people like everyone else. I’ve known a few who have left the profession and now work in software coding. Another now owns his own construction company. I know of another who now sells houses. Marketable skills don’t always come from your current profession.

That comment is actually worthy of an invitation to Sonic. Instead, I’ll just tell you that you don’t have a fricking clue what you’re talking about.

Yes, but on a board centered around Louisiana, dumping on your own teachers because of what happens in liberal California seems odd.
Louisiana education is downright awful. Some mention that doing away with public education would fix things.

Depends on the district and whether they are public or parochial schools... Or if they are doing remote learning because the stupid teachers unions tell their teachers they don't need to work.

If they had better options than just Walmart brand astroglide in Texas more teachers wouldn't be considering.

In today’s world, I tend to think most people suck.

My dad was a high school principal and my mother was the dean of the education department at a local college. I'm not just talking out of my arse. The NEA and local teachers unions have supported and pushed progressive policies in schools for decades. Now they want to whine when the chickens have come home to roost.

When does stipend usually kick in for teachers and/or for what especially if not a choice?
Not used to seeing salaried workers get stipend so not sure if it’s hourly based, extracurricular activity based (like coaching or band director or whatever) or something else.
