My wife and I have a rich friend in Lafayette who has a 500 bottle wine cellar. I've tasted very expensive wine and champagne. The difference is noticeable but not worth that amount of money.

There is a difference up there a price point but then the cost is more about the rarity and bragging rights. You would need to be a second degree sommelier to pick up the differences.
