I remember drinking water from a hose. Let my friend have first crack at it. 8 seconds later, colder water came out.

Yes it was, went to Astroworld that year among others around that time. I feel fortunate to be alive today.

I was a police officer in a Dallas suburb. That June a traffic light was added to the intersection of two 6 lane roads, replacing a 4 way stop. I directed traffic from 8am-4pm for 5 days. Hotter than balls.

Canadian, TX well loaded with diesel. Packed it off all day. Worst sunburn of my life. And the buffalo were near by on a ranch.

We had friends from out of town visiting that summer. My folks finally sprung for a second window unit A/C in our house that year, but it only got used at night or when we had company. So, I was pretty stoked to have their friends there.

Other thing I remember was having to sleep at my grandmother’s vacant home next door. They had a HUGE window unit they used to cool the bedroom, and it enveloped me in unlimited sub 68 degree joy for 4 straight nights.

I remember it well. I remember a few bad ones like that. We played outside all day and I remember thinking I was going to walk to my uncles to go swim. I was barefoot on the sidewalk and had to jump off into the grass every 10’ bc my feet were on fire.

I was nine in the summer of 1980, we drove across Texas to Carlsbad, NM. We stopped for gas in Dallas, and I remember the back seat of the Oldsmobile immediately becoming an oven as soon as Dad killed the engine.

I agree with this. Growing up in south Louisiana was always a heat wave with oppressive humidity. In the 1960's during my first decade of life there was often no AC. Man I was much tougher back then

I don't know if anyone's noticed yet

But uhhhhh

Seems like it's balls hot every summer in Louisiana.

Not even ONE summer off from the heat. Every. Single. Year.

Something must be done about this. I propose higher taxes.

Remember it well! I had left NOLA for a new job in Houston, my initial training was in Pittsburgh. After a few weeks in Pittsburgh, they flew me to Dallas to complete training; remember getting off the plane in Dallas, temp. was already 105!

I’m not an old fart but old enough to remember living in Dallas that summer. We fried bologna on a blacktop parking lot one day. People were on the news cooking all kinds of shite.

The summer of 2011 was as brutal and I think had more days over 100 (70+ days). But no 113’s like 1980.

In comparison, Dallas has a grand total of 0 days over 100 so far this summer. Thank you spring rains.

Just getting out of high school back then, by day I pulled wire at a new papermill being built (after being promoted from using a plate compactor).

On the weekends my grandfather and great uncle depended on me to help get the hay up. Never forget that Louisiana summer stacking in the barn. God I was in good shape.

And of course, drove a black 66 Mustang, no AC.
