The "Bustleback." My 4th grade teacher (Mr. O'Hare) had one and he loved it. He used to brag about it all the time to our 4th grade class. Kudos to Cadillac for having the balls to be different and bold.
Many people disliked these cars, which is understandable. Anyone here ever drive or own one of these?
In Commodore Blue
In Cotillion White
In Sable Black

Lots of room in the trunk for bodies so I imagine it was popular among wise guys.

First car I remember my mom driving. Her Seville was grey. I was born in '81.

I can’t believe this POS was called a Cadillac. It’s a glorified Chevy Lumina.

And a bone us image:

It's actually a rebadged Opel Omega.

Is this for real? Our car was inspired by a garbage truck and that's a good thing?
And there's a literal reference to taking a shite at the very bottom

Okay I admit to liking them, but I preferred the models without the notchback (1979 was the last year for them). Not bad for a late 1970's design IMO. Restrained and understated by Cocaine Cowboy era Cadillacs. Not my favorite Cadillac sedan, but I still like it. IMO the modern V series Cadillacs are beating BMW at their own game in many ways, but that doesn't really matter anymore since nobody buys sedans. It's a shame.
The Mercedes looked like a bathtub then, but I like them too. But this was the heyday of Mercedes Benz making mechanically bulletproof cars and focusing on excellence in quality over bling. They went downhill by the 1990s. IMO the W126 (particularly the late 1980s V8 models) was ultimately the best Benz sedan ever. I'm legitimately angry that the same company that made the W126 makes that bullshite EQS electric Tesla wannabe. The Germans completely lost track of what made them awesome over the past 25 years.
Lincoln was relevant as a luxury car back then. But holy hell the Continental was a bit much. You can land a Cessna on that hood, and the car is so long that I don't think it would fit in most garages. The round window in the C pillar is just goofy AF. Lincoln is struggling as a brand now. Maybe they should bring the Town Car back to compete with the new Cadillac Celestiq and that stupid Mercedes EQS.

My dad had one of those in silver and black. It was a sweet car.

7.5L 460 cubic inch V8 engine. 11 MPG. 205 horsepower.
I still think it would be cool to drive a huge sedan with a hood ornament a quarter mile in front of you. I missed out on that era. We had the 1990s Town Cars, but they were tiny little compact cars by comparison to the 1970's Continental.

The designer of those pants should never work in industry again.
My sister back then drove a knock off of that Cadillac but can't remember the maker.

The spiritual predecessor that Cadillac makes today is a hand-build, low volume, $300,000 luxury sedan.
I don't hate it. Reminds me of the Porsche Panamera, only much longer and bigger. But it's going to be so low volume that I will almost never even see one.
This is what the Germans are building now in the same market (large EV luxury sedans):
The BMW is hideous. And the Mercedes looks like a jellybean.
