The comments are as interesting as the video.

They said they fought the Dutch.
Never mind, he mentioned 1861, so it’s the Civil War.

I think Cole Camp was fought by the state guard in support of the Union and many were immigrants, although I can't find anything about a specific Dutch company being involved.
I thought it was interesting they said they didn't just enlist to enlist, they enlisted to fight for the rest of their lives or until the war ended.
Which means they must have been pretty passionate about the Confederacy.
Yet they hold the Union flag so effortlessly, loose and happy.
Seemed kind of odd.

Do they say Some people did something?

People back in the early 1900s sounded so weird. That dialect is odd
It’s like the reporters adding “you see” after every sentence

Is odd that people could actually get over a bitter disappointment

I wish they would have been asked if they heard it when the levees got blown up.

Lot can be learned by listening to our very old, while they're still able to share.
Back in the late 80's I met a gentleman close to a hundred years old that had the foresight to put his recollections onto cassette tapes so his grandkids could hear history told in his voice, years after he was gone. He had probably filled 20 cassette cases worth.
Lots of tales about his grandparents crossing the prairie in covered wagons, living through the depression, both World Wars, seeing a plane fly over for the first time, space travel and more.

You mean like people today who end every question they ask with "at"?
It's "where is he?" not "where is he at?".

The immigrants were mostly from Germany. While he seems to be pronouncing it Dutch, maybe he’s saying he fought the Deutsche (Germans).

I just heard a guy born in 1826 talk
Crazy that some of those people knew people that were alive during Washington’s presidency and also knew people alive during Trumps.

The 25th Michigan regiment was made up of Dutch immigrants. Some other regiments were Dutch mercenaries. Other countries we're involved also.

They were from Missouri. It was less about Union/Confederacy issues (particularly slavery) and more about family/clan loyalty and settling personal beefs. Ditto for Kansas.
(ETA: Notice how respectful they were and revered Union General Lyon for his courage.)

Yeah, that was another oddity in this video.
They seemed pretty chipper for their age.
Things I thought were off:
1) The nonchalant-ease in which they held the flag while they were saying they enlisted to fight to the death against that flag.
2) The people they would have been fighting would have likely been German, not Dutch, but there's a chance (I suppose) they were saying Deutsche.
3) The Masonic handshake between the two men that can barely be seen bc of the camera height.
