That is a stupid law.... I really don't see why it makes a difference to the state who the person is that wins..... you should have the right to stay private..... it would only protect the winners safety IMO.....

The total they received vs what they won isn’t all taxes.

There is a substantial deduction if you take a lump sum.

I understand that. I guess what I was saying was I wonder how much that attorney got. I sure it was a little more than what he normally charges for setting up a partnership or LLC.

Wonder if the payout will be bigger than his Christmas bonus. May be able to pay off that truck this year.

What's crazy is that if both the winner and his spouse died this year, their estate would be hit with an estate tax of 40% on the money over ~$11MM.

Estate taxes piss me off more than civil forfeiture.
You pay taxes when you earn it, spend it, and whatever is left over also gets taxed again when you die.

That money is free and clear... and in good standing with Uncle Sam. It should not be taxed again.

Wasn't a Fontenot. Lol

His last name is definitely not a common name around these parts.

I'm still trying to figure out the third party, it's only he and his wife that I know of.

If I hated my job/boss that much, I would troll his arse, while waiting to claim the prize, till he fired me.
