I’ve seen enough abuse and neglect of children when I worked in Peds.

I agree that I wish more people would not have kids to just have them.

Not everyone is meant to be a parent. I think it takes a huge amount of maturity for one to recognize that in themself and not have kids cause that is what society expects of them.

This doesn't comport with the arguments that many people make about why they want to have (or had) kids.

So it's narcissistic to not bring a child into this world if you don't think you're the right person to be raising said child.

But it's not narcissistic to bring a child into this world because you (1) want someone to take care of you in old-age, and (2) because kids make you happy and you get to live vicariously through them.

I don’t want kids, never have. No matter how many times family and friends said I was going to change my mind as I got older...I never did. I’m 38 now, and I still don’t want kids. I don’t dislike them by any means, they’re just not for me. My gf and I love our freedom 100% of the time.

Had a friend who thought the same way as you. Was even a step father in one of his brief marriages for awhile. He accidentally had a kid at 42. Now he kicks himself for not having one earlier. Having your own biological child can change your life like you wouldn’t believe. When looking at your own child and you basically see yourself 42 years in the past is powerful. Having nephews and nieces is not even close to the same experience.

Your way of thinking can do an 180 degree turn when it is your own.

Some of you act like you are millionaires and are able to hit up Bora Bora while living in your 20 million dollar NYC penthouse. Instead you are working a meaningless job, watching Netflix at night, going to Sonic, and going to Panama City Florida for vacations. No need to ruin this lavish lifestyle with a kid.

1) a couple with decent incomes becoming millionaires isn't difficult
2) this is awfully specific. Sounds like projection

Just a random thought, usually don't see it talked about here. If you have no children, you can never be a grandparent.

And being a grandparent is awesome as frick. Seriously. Better than being a parent. All the joy. None of the stress.

Most people that I know that didn't want kids when they were younger ended up having them a little later in life.

For most - material possessions, going out partying etc loses some of its luster. The things that matter to you the most change as you get a little older.

One of them still owns the family plantation in Virginia. He can accurately go around telling people that his granddad bought the house...in 1842.

Some of the kidless folks I know dont do any of things listed in the article. They work and go home and watch TV like everybody else. I dont know many kidless folks that spontaneously travel, even though the could.

Also the articles always act like kids dont grow up. The sleep less nights last at most a couple years. Changing diapers last a couple years.

Hell by around 12 they are ready to do sleep overs with friends and give you a free night.

When they are 15-18 they dont want to be around you all the time, they want to be with friends. By 18ish they are gone.

Anyways there is nothing in the world I would trade for spending time and raising my son. No number of one night stands, trips, extra money, free time, would make me as happy as the unconditional love you share with your children.
