How does it feel being descended from treasonous scum?

Thanks for enlightening me. I did not know that the US government honored traitors. The army bases named in honor of Confederate Generals, the fact that Congress designates Confederate veterans as US veterans, and the VA purchases and supplies grave markers for Confederate veterans, would say you are mistaken. By the way, one of my many Confederate ancestors was captured at Vicksburg. I am fairly certain that they possessed more honor and sense of duty than you will ever know.

Same here. It was cool to see his name on the parole rolls.
That Mississippi Campaign was such a clusterfrick for the Confederacy.

Rebelling against the north is the most American thing we did in this country since 1776
So fighting to not be an American is the most American thing you can do?
Not sure I see the logic in that

give me an F-4 that's not tasked with babysitting Thuds that have been told not to drop bombs unless they are sure no one will be hurt by them, let the Buffs do their job, let us bomb NV airfields that we KNOW have MiG-21's based at but don't because the Ruskie pilots are getting some game time reps disguised as NV pilots, .....and so on

Yeah, but none of that happened, 777. What happened is that we killed a metric shite ton of the NVA, they killed far fewer of us than we killed of them, but in the end, we left and they got the country.
They were not crushed. A crushed people don't win.

Feels wonderful.
It must have felt good for him too, he violated his parole and served the rest of the war with the Attakapas Guards, 8th Louisiana Infantry.

We did, In 1973 when we forced North Vietnam to sign the Paris Peace Accords. At that point, in 1973 the Vietnam War Ended. The US has stopped the North Vietnamese aim of overrunning South Vietnam. The Viet Cong was totally destroyed as a viable military force, the NVA had been bled white, and the North's air defenses totally wiped out.
In 1975 North Vietnam, rearmed and reequipped by the Soviet Union, launched another war when they invaded South Vietnam, two years after the end of the Vietnam War. In this new war the US (thanks to liberal Democrats in Congress cutting all military aid to South Vietnam) refused to aid South Vietnam despite the fact the US was treaty bound to come to their aid. Due to being abandoned by the US, South Vietnam was swiftly crushed by the Soviet backed North Vietnam.
Saying the US lost the Vietnam War would be like saying the US lost World War I because German invaded and conquered France in 1940.

Grants Vicksburg campaign is one of the greatest military feats in our history.
Still studied in war colleges to this day.
What an accomplishment for a superior engineering might and military genius. What he was able to do is flat out amazing.
Navigating the flood plains and crossing multiple rivers with rebuilt bridges (one made of floating cotton bales) and fighting an army by severing communications to confuse them.
Grant dominated the Western CS Armies and forced one 32,000 strong to bend the knee.
What a great American. Fitting it was on this day.

but none of that happened,
if it was allowed to, well, you know, it was senseless in retrospect, but the people tasked with doing their jobs took it pretty seriously, their survivors took it very seriously, it's kind of being sort of pregnant, all in or all out, FUBAR for sure
