A 15-year-old charged in a Gentilly carjacking last November that killed local pastor Jeannot Plessy pleaded guilty Wednesday (May 29) to obstruction of justice and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in juvenile court. A manslaughter charge was dismissed.
The teen was sentenced to two years in juvenile prison, and Juvenile Judge Candice Bates-Anderson suspended all but six months of that sentence. He must serve those six months in the custody of the Office of Juvenile Justice, according to District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro’s office.

Plessy, 49, was killed when she was pulled from her car and thrown to the ground in a Nov. 27, 2018, carjacking in the 2400 block of Prentiss Avenue. Police said her son-in-law tried to stop the carjacking, but the suspect put the car in reverse and ran over both of them. Plessy died at the hospital. Her son-in-law survived his injuries.

Why was this not a murder charge? This is really shameful and a slap in the face of the family.

Run over and crushed

Additionally, the judge ordered that the juvenile be on supervised parole for 18 months, perform 50 hours of community service and obtain a high school diploma
That will be the killshot.

Good. Let's get this young man out of the industrial prison complex and into some programs. Midnight basketball or SLAM poetry may be just what the doctor ordered.

He'll probably be dead in 3 years anyway
Sucks there might be more dead bodies from him though before that

Not surprised a hyphenated last named judge gives such a light sentence

The two older kids, 17 and 19 yr old brothers I believe, are being charged as adults.

They are awaiting trial in Criminal District Court on second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and other charges. Court records show their next hearing is scheduled for July

He killed someone, while committing a felony, and only got 2 years(suspended all but 6 months)?

This is a fricking mockery of he justice system. Want to know what New Orleans is so goddamn dangerous? Kid could have just driven off but put the car in reverse and killed someone and he’ll be free before this year is over.
fricking disgraceful.
Here’s the judge.
By the way
Welcome to New Orleans. So glad to hear Louisiana fricked up fhe sports gambling bill.

I don’t know the specifics but there were three people involved and others facing murder charges
And the victims family is allegedly on board with this plea.
Sounds like the minor was likely minimally involved and they’d rather he get pushed into a better path than tied up in jail?
