But mental illness is a big problem as well, but why is that?

I know it’s a running joke but the entire idea behind everyone “getting a trophy” plays a large role too. Part of failure is learning from it and this has been significantly limited in many people. There may an increase in organic mental disorders but I think the larger problem is the social influence.

Report: Private schools more than twice as safe as public schools

You mean somewhere you have to pay to be is safer than somewhere that's "free"?

I just wish we'd stop giving these frick's their 15 minutes.

EVERY goddamned time, you end up seeing their stated grievances on the news.

frick that.

I want the news to black out their names and replace them with negative epitaphs. shite like, "In sad news today, a piece of human excrement shot 12 people..........whatever his reasons are, we don't give a crap and won't dignify them by repeating them".

Everyone always wants to know "why" but here's what happens.

Every single time some a-hole does this, there are other assholes who see it and think, "hey, nobody pays attention to my concerns either.....and he made them listen!"

frick that. Human excrement the lot of em. Talk about them in the worst terms possible. Send a message to the next wannabe that all they will be is a piece of shite to the public.

I will add that personally, I wonder if the whole anti-bullying line of thinking and before that, the extreme focus on self esteem, has contributed to this shite getting worse.

A classic case of unintended consequences.

I'll tell you something that didn't happen when my oldest was young and will NEVER happen with my younger ones now.

You'll never see me at the fricking school trying to get the teacher to gets kids to stop saying mean shite to my kids.

Wiki

Doesn't help when the government creates gun free kill zones, in it's infinite wisdom.

And when you grow up being shielded from the sting of failure because you are "too young" to deal with it.......like there's some miracle year you suddenly become old enough.......then, you really are going to fricking suck at dealing with:

Girls not liking you
Being made fun of cause you're fat
Always being picked last for stuff
etc
etc
etc

I suspect the difference is private schools are free to teach morality. Public schools can not.

Maybe public schools should allow Christmas programs. A policy of no God and mocking religion doesn’t seem to be working.

What's sad is that this has become such a common occurence in our country that we're becoming deseinsitized to it.

BOOM

I'm amazed it took this long for this to come up in this discussion.

A combination of mnay things led to something like this but the whole video game aspect is clearly one piece of the puzzle IMHO

Guys - and maybe I am the exception - I have played FPSs since they became a thing. Some people aren't mentally well. Some people are just evil. I just don't think video games comes into factor with those two.

I thing glorifying people who suffer from depression, bullying plays into this.

Instead of saying "God, that was a bad kid with shitty parents" we heroically put them on frontline episodes making these killers a victim. I got so fricking pissed after Columbine
