Great explanation.

I heard a priest one time use an example when someone used a ouija board just for “fun” that if you open your front door just for fun and someone is standing there with a knife, it doesn’t matter that you were just doing it for fun, the door is open and it is too late.
Either Fr. Carlos Martins or Fr. Dan Reehil gave this example on some podcasts I was recently listening to.

Well, shite. I’ve never gotten any of that fun. I must be immune.
Though 08 may show up at my door with a knife one day

Go listen to this. Be open to the other side.
Shawn Ryan Show - Dan Schneider
The one with Fr. Dan Reehil is great, too. Fr. Stephen Gadberry was on with Shawn Ryan, also.
Both of these guys are extremely relatable. Fr. Dan lived a wild life on Wall Street before finding his vocation. Fr. Stephen lost his father and 11 year old sister in an auto accident when he was young, was a bit of a wild child, and then went in the Air Force before finding his vocation.

That's the point. They didn't know Latin. The priests did.
quote:It isn't really that exhaustive, especially when the examiners are predisposed to believe as well. There is a case of Annielise Michel who was exorcized 67 times yet died of malnutrition. She had previously been diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy which could account for her symptoms.
The process for diagnosing someone is very extensive. They exhaust many avenues before deeming someone possessed. Someone with schizophrenia doesn't magically get cured after several sessions with a priest praying over them.
quote:They can be experiencing neurological disorders as well.
They aren't just crazy

Fair enough. He will be boycotting the event until it is shut down. Is that better?

Matt Fradd. He has done some excellent work on this subject with numerous priests.

So no. That’s not all he is doing. But I do fully support his right to do so.

I have yet to listen to him, but I intend to. I was listening to either the Shawn Ryan Show or the Exorcist Files.

I’m personally not interested in trying to bring demonic forces into my life. I have enough to worry about, lol. Anyone else can do as they please. I pray it works out for everyone.

They are describing things that would not be mistakable by ignorance
quote:Not really. Again, there is well meaning increased credulity.
the accounts from some of these priests are dramatic leaving only those two options

You just have a materialist world view that everything can be explained away

How do you know its demonic?

So a thread about a fake seance has now turned into arguing about exorcisms.
I don’t really care about the seance - I don’t think it’s being forced upon the 13th gate customers - if it was then maybe I’d have a problem with it - but I think it’s an add on or different experience
As for exorcisms - the necessity is rare but the priests aren’t lying
If you are Catholic and just so happen to get caught up in an exorcism, just make sure you go to Confession first.

Dude, complaining that a Priest will boycott a seance is one of the weirdest complaints I’ve ever seen.

From the internet:
To all my down voters, sounds like a seance to me.

Day of the Dead | National Geographic KidsYes, during Mexico's Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos), people do try to talk to the dead by welcoming the spirits of their ancestors to visit.
To all my down voters, sounds like a seance to me.

How do you know? And even if they’re not intentionally lying, how do you know that they’re just not inaccurately describing the occurrence?

Yeah I get that the thread has gotten derailed a little with the exorcism talk, but a priest explaining to his parish that a seance (whether it's for entertainment purposes or not) is a no-go is pretty straightforward.
