And how often does this happen? Vey rarely. Pretty much in line with the murder rates of any city. New Orleans doesn’t have a murder problem - it has a self-eradication solution.

"Common sense" in New Orleans means walking in groups of three or more, watching your back, and not being downtown after midnight. And that's regular advice from citizens on this board. Now, does that sound normal to you?

Not really - it means don’t go wandering deserted back streets at 2 a.m. in the Quarter or the hood. And in my entire adult life I can’t think of a single time I had any reason to be in any dangerous part of the city after midnight. I’ve gone out to eat in the Quarter, strolled down Bourbon St. with guests I’ve brought into town, gone to events at the Saenger or Mahalia Jackson Theatre, gone to Pelicans games, etc. And not once has any of those outings put me in a dangerous area at a dangerous time.

So what you are saying is that we should dump more guns into the ghetto and play catch up?

New Orleans started off with a real bang last year too. After January they were on their way to setting records. They ended last year with a decrease in murders. Let’s hope there’s another decrease this year as well.

Over 50% kill rate is a significant improvement. I’d be interested in a “number of shots fired” statistic to see if we’re still in the era of spray and pray, or if people have turned their guns back upright to use the sights.

None of this has anything to do with how shitty your beloved city is. You realize the majority of the people in those areas that are more difficult to differentiate between good and bad are tourists. Hell all the damn streets looks the same. It’s all too close to one another. They don’t know the difference.

It is a shame that a mid sized US city has a murder rate that rivals many 3rd world cities dealing with civil wars and major drug traffic.
