Can you even imagine the joy that kid is going to have when she finally hears the dulcet tones of President Trump.
I truly envy her. That first time is so special.

The reaction of that mother is priceless. Amazing. Unbelievable. Great video.
This is the kind of thing technology should be working on.

Yes, let's make a 1 year old hearing for the first time, and the reaction of her mother political. Geez, no wonder people call you libtards.

Cochlear implants are actually a huge problem because audiologists tell the parents that their kid is now fixed and they should never teach the kid sign language despite the fact the majority have no more hearing than they had before or only minor hearing improvements
Audiologists do not tell parents their child is fixed, they tell them they have the ability to learn how to hear and the journey will be long and take years of speech therapy and many hours of the parents involvement to get them to be able to interpret their new hearing. The speech therapist then tell of how there are parents that want nothing to do with being involved with the child's therapies which gives you a hint on how much they are involved with the child's development.
To say these devices are a huge problem is a load of shite, they are a great tool and bring joy and life altering change to many families. The key is the parents and their involvement with the development and the child's learning.
On a side note, this parent is lucky to have this reaction, many do not get this and think this type of reaction from kids this age and YouTube videos.

So kids wind up having no language since they can't hear and haven't learned sign language.
This is the case of parents lack of involvement, not the fault of the implant or the audiologist.

The kids reaction is adorable.

I have spoken with parents who tell me the audiologist made them sign a contract stating they would never teach the child sign language.
I am all for people doing what they want for themselves and their family...so if someone chooses to get an implant then that's their decision....but frick telling a parent they cannot give the child every tool available to enrich their world.

Oh boy

Not the experience I am having first hand having a child with cochlear implants. I cannot discredit your experience, but what I can say is just with any profession there are those with good practices and those with poor practices. The doctors in our life have been nothing short of phenomenal. Also, nothing about such contract would be binding and as a parent or a recipient not signing such nonsense would not keep your child from getting cochlear implants.
Even if I were to sign such nonsense as a parent if my child wasn't progressing through auditory language I would be figuring out why whether it be a developmental issue, my lack of involvement, a device malfunctioning, whatever the case.
There is something more to the story than just, "Oh the child is 14 and cannot communicate." Something would be brought up during the years of speech therapy which is at a minimum 2 times a month in the beginning. Some parents choose more, we chose for our child to go once a week.

I really don't understand how there are parents like this. How can you see your child struggle or suffer from something like this and do nothing to help. That shite comes natural to me and my wife, and we'd go broke and risk everything to help our boys if they were. It just blows my mind how people create life and just half arse it raising them, and don't look out for their safety and well being.

This is spoken simply from ignorance. My son was born deaf and had a CI at 1 year of age. We put him on a total Auditory-Verbal therapy track. He is now 12 years and he can hear whispers and wind in the trees. He speaks with a nice little cajun accent. He does not need sign language and does not know it. If he ever chooses to learn it we will be happy to do so as well. He is a hearing child with special needs.
My son can read and write and does very well in his studies. The idea that CIs are a cure for deafness is inaccurate. Not all forms of deafness are can be affected by the implantation of a CI. For my son's form of deafness although he is completely auditory/verbal he is still deaf. We do use a little sign language for those times when his processors are not on, but 99% of the time, he is a hearing child.
One thing you must know, that the therapy for years after the implants is more important than the device. My son went through 5 years of therapy. Parent that do not commit to the proper therapy path and rely on therapist only, then the child can have problems.
