Okay, for the weather nerds, WHY can’t this be like last year when we just got a foot of beautiful snow?

Don’t trust any GFS snow projection maps.

All models are wrong. Some models are useful . …James Spann

At least two people have been killed in the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in Russia’s Far East after snow fell from rooftops and buried them alive, local officials said Thursday, as the Kamchatka Peninsula remains largely paralyzed by a series of powerful winter storms.

Since Monday, several low-pressure systems forming in the Sea of Okhotsk have swept across Kamchatka and other parts of Far East Russia, bringing strong winds and record snowfall.

Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry shared a video on social media showing rescue workers tunneling through large snowbanks to reach elderly residents trapped inside their homes.

Life in Kamchatka has been brought to a virtual standstill. Schools have been closed and public transit suspended in the regional capital, where entire neighborhoods have been buried.

Videos shared by a resident showed snow mounds reaching to the second floor of apartment buildings and locals working together to remove snow blocking the entrances of buildings.

Had to explain to my MIL that it’s a really bad idea to drive through a major winter storm to get Abilene, where if we make it there we may get stuck there for days. We can go next weekend. Her response. Let’s see what tomorrow’s forecast says. Unreal.

I doubt you’ll leave Macon if models verify. But Meridian looks about the cutoff line right now. So if you could stay there you might be ok.

That was a colder air mass and flawless timing.

If that setup (Arctic air + gulf low) were to occur 1,000 times last year was THE one.
