You know I used to wait two days to call anybody, but now it's like everyone in town waits two days. So I think three days is kind of money.

Men are fricking annoying sometimes when they hit on you if you're not interested. If you reject them too soon, they get pissy and defensive claiming they weren't hitting on you.. "just talking"
If you reject them too far into talking, you're a bitch for letting the conversation go as long as it did without mentioning you're not interested.
If you give them a wrong number, you're a coward who can't man up and be honest that you're not interested.
If you give them the right number because you're afraid of how they will react, you now have to deal with some dude you're not interested in texting/calling you.
I think I would melt if someone said "Hey, it was great getting to know you. Here is my card/number. If you would like to hang out with me again, give me a call. If you're not interested, no biggie."
No expectations... no anger.. no having to lie.
ETA: If she wanted your number and she seems interested, call her whenever you want. Games are stupid.
I wouldn't necessarily text her the same night unless she seems REALLY interested, but call the next day if you're wanting to set up a date.

Beta asks for your number and reacts like a psycho if you decline or give a fake. Beta calls you and tries to reach you several times after meeting if you got scared and gave him your number.

Now if it was the first time you met her and it could have been just a hookup, that's different. But then you're holding onto some romantic gesture for a girl that was willing to hook up the first time you met. So either way, you should have gone for it.

Putting a girl in a position where she feels backed into a corner is a beta move. It makes her feel like she has to say yes to you.. which is exactly what you want to happen.
Ask any girl. We've all experienced it. There are so many guys who react in a very immature (and scary) way when you turn them down, so a lot of chicks who don't have thick skin just give out their number anyway. Luckily, I've grown to not care if I hurt their feelings by saying no, but it happens all the time with chicks. Give a guy your number so he won't get angry at you in person.. and just don't respond to any texts/calls.
Obviously, there are times when a girl is truly interested in you and this won't happen. But STILL.. slipping her your number will always make you look confident and won't make you feel played if she just never texts/calls.

I'm gonna have to take this into consideration from now on.
To answer the OP, if you have to wonder about if it's too early or not, you're overthinking it. Since I am an expert with ladies (lol), Call or text the next day in the evening to set up a date.
