Weird timing if it’s just for camp depth. Either the saints think they can get something for Rattler or after watching his tape in the offseason they think he’s already reached his ceiling.

They knew they were moving on from Tuna so they were in tank and rebuild mode. No upside to playing Wilson. Ewers is on a rookie contract. If he was good or bad it didn’t matter bc it wouldn’t cost them more money. If Wilson went in and lit it up, they may have to pay him. They were going to start over with a new QB anyway.

You don’t think they’d be slightly excited if Wilson went in, the light went on, and he lit it up?

I just think the mid 20s high draft pick qb rehab model has become a bit of a thing. If you can get a former blue chip prospect for cheap even for a year or two you acquire him just to see what you have in a potential asset.

Rattler was terrible. I really like what Kellen is doing for the future. This and getting rid of aging fan favorites

He's a 6 foot, 1 read QB. I think he can still get better as a QB, but he is only going to go so far as a short, 1 read guy who is just an okay scrambler and has pretty bad ball placement even on "accurate" throws. How many passes have we seen thrown behind the receiver from him?

On the timing, he's a former starting QB (terrible as he may have been) with valid reasons he was drafted high even if it has never clicked for him. He's not someone that will hang around for long with QB being THE prime position in football. Even if he winds up as just a camp body, he would have been some other team's camp body if we waited.

Honestly no, because they could not afford to keep him this year. They are effectively (meaning counting the rookie holds) $8 mil over the cap currently and need to shed that just to sign their draft picks.

LINK

The Giants, Bears, Chiefs, and Panthers are all in the same boat as well, in that they need to clear space to sign all of their current picks.

I haven't looked at those teams, but when looking at the Dolphins they can barely clear enough for their picks, and I don't think they can even sign another player for over vet minimum the rest of the year.

How great it must be to be completely garbage and have 32 companies you can bounce around from, all while getting paid millions of dollars to work for 6 months.

Pretty sure this is just filling out the #3 QB spot. Haener is in KC now and Saints need someone in that slot. Maybe he beats out Rattler for #2 - who knows?

I trust Kellen with this. I don't mind him as a backup at all. I think the Rattler experiment has been tested and this is his chance to take the #2 spot.

Ewers starting over Wilson does not mean the Dolphins thought Ewers was better. It means ZW was on a 1 year contract, they knew he was not their future, and they wanted to see if they had anything in Ewers. Either he sucks and they end up with a better pick or he’s great and they got a steal in the draft.
