Who on our defense translates to Staley’s 3-4 scheme?

I would think Granderson would now be standing up. Sure as shite would be great to have Zack Baun still he would be great for it. The DBs won’t be as affected, it will be interesting to see what they do about Adebo. I’m guessing Bryan Bresee would now be a 3-4 DE which means we need to find a big nose tackle.

Bresee, Granderson, Werner can. DD in his prime could but he’s old, same for Cam. As you said, really only the front 7 matter. But I think he expects a lot out of his safeties and we aren’t all great there either.

So you are saying the Defensive Front 7 will be Key …..BUT maybe only 3 current players might fit the new 3-4 new scheme ????

So we are 4 quality players short ???

Oh that’s just what wonderful.

This is going to be a multi year rebuild. To do that you have to first tear it down.

Well we are cash strapped but possible to find an older NT in FA and you can find good NTs in middle of draft also. Saunders isn’t ideal at nose but can feel in a pinch for a breather to the others. Need several LBs in my opinion. Gonna have to luck up in the draft or hope our current younger ones develop. If we can get the NT situation fixed my biggest concern is LBs

If we truly are running a 3-4, then Javon Walker might be the pick at 9.

With what money? NTs are in demand even old ones who can play 25 snaps.

Then why haven’t we done it already?

Alontae will fit this defense well.

Bresee fits well imo. Cam Jordan 4 years ago was perfect for it.

Desperately need a NT, rush LB, and a Safety.

They need a vet body at NT even if it’s a guy that’s past his prime or never had a prime. Someone with some experience in this system. We aren’t talking a star.

This is actually being called the deepest draft at DT in a very long time. Possibly the deepest position in the entire draft.

Good timing for us.

Walker should be considered for the pick even if they run a 4-3.

Defenses play around 88% of their snaps in nickel or dime packages. This isn't some major overhaul that some people tend to think it is.

I’m very interested to see if Staley can salvage Foskeys career.

Possibly get him back to more of a role he play at ND of just turn him loose and let him get after the QB. He’s not going to make it on the Dline unless he can develop some kind of run defense skills.

I agree, both 4-3 and 3-4 defenses have 11 people. But we do not have a prototype NT for a 3-4. We also don’t have much speed at LB.

Any chance we can revive Payton Turner as well, I haven’t seen much regarding his fit but maybe he’ll fit this defense better as well?

I think he’s become a forgotten man with injuries but when healthy he is a big athletic body.

That wasn't my point. My point was that the 3-4 scheme will only be about 10% of the snaps per game. The rest will be in nickel or dime where you have 1-2 LBers (depending if its nickel or dime) on the field along with 2 edge rushers. Even if his base defense is 3-4 its a really small percentage of snaps that will get played as such.

Have you watched him? He has no speed around the edge or get off. Maybe he can be a 3-4 end if he gets more strength and uses his hands better. Still drives me crazy they picked him over Branch, who we could really use right now.

I get your point, but 1st downs are important also. If you run a 3-4 with someone like Saunders or Bresee at nose it’s going to be a long day. Wouldn’t even be a reason to pass the ball. You need a true nose tackle to run it, that’s all I’m saying. Outside of Granderson we don’t have much speed on the edge, you need speed on the edge for the passing downs also

I mean, yeah, I agree that we need a true nose tackle on the roster for certain situations. We don't need a personnel overhaul, though.
